As a Full-Stack Developer at Biorelate, you will work with our product, design and data science teams to present complex scientific information to our customers via our Galactic API and Galactic Web products. You will use the latest and greatest Python and Javascript technologies, like FastAPI, React and Chakra-ui to build user interfaces to help world leading pharmaceutical and biomedical research companies develop the innovations and treatments of the future.
Must be eligible to work in the U.K and U.K Resident.
Key responsibilities
RESTful API design and development - We use FastAPI (Python).
Implementation of UI/UX from designs (Figma) - We use React with Chakra-ui.
Implementation of CI/CD pipelines for various front- and back-end services - We use Gitlab.
Ensuring the code is rigorously and continually testing and being responsible for the monitoring and uptime.
Working closely with senior management, product and design teams to ensure customer and user requirements are actualised within the products.
Maintaining third party services that integrate with Biorelate's products - such as Auth0, Cloudflare.
Mentoring of junior developers.
Setting and adhering to standards for the style and quality of the codebases.
Key skills and experience
Proven track record of at least 5 years professional software delivery.
Extensive experience with the React framework and popular technologies related to it like Redux, React Router, etc.
Be comfortable collaborating with a designer (in person and via tools such as Figma) to implement web applications.
Experience of using Python back-end (such as FastAPI, Flask, etc.) in a production environment.
Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and search engines such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
Experience in an environment where code review and code quality are paramount.
Experience with containers and Google Cloud (or equivalent in AWS, Azure).
Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.
Other experience desired
An eye for up-and-coming technologies and best practices.
Being prepared to adapt in response to feedback.
Being sufficiently self-motivated to take initiative and work with minimal oversight and always being willing to learn new skills. If something doesn’t exist, being prepared to build or write it, but also knowing when to build and when it is best to not reinvent the wheel.
Appreciation of the philosophy behind the DevOps movement and be a fan of infrastructure-as-code.
Recognise the value in testing and documentation in building scalable and stable platforms. Should be keen to emphasise and apply best-practice.
An interest in career development - be it leading a team or becoming a tech lead.
Interest and enthusiasm to work with biomedical data. Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of people (biologists, data scientists, developers). Be able to handle complex scientific information and not being afraid to ask “stupid” questions if you feel that you are working with incomplete information (they’re not stupid).
Ability to be productive in a distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation, delivering according to a schedule, and to motivate and mentor others to do the same.
Excellent communications skills in the English language, both verbal and written, especially in online environments such as slack, email, video calls, etc.
