British Wool is a farmer run organisation which was established in 1950 to operate a central marketing system for fleece wool.
We collect the most complex wool clip in the world from over 45,000 farms throughout the UK and prepare it for sale at electronic auction. British Wool have eight grading depots throughout the UK who have uniquely skilled grading teams to process each and every fleece by hand and eye sorting it into more than 120 different grades of wool that will be scientifically core-tested at its internationally recognised laboratory in Wales. Offering 24 million kilos of wool at its 18 electronic auctions throughout the year, the business provides a supply on demand global availability to merchants.
Our depot located in Ashford is now holding interviews looking to recruit a Trainee Grader/Warehouse Operative to join their Grading team, the successful applicant will be of a high calibre to take up this significant role within our organisation.
The role of Grader is to be able to identify different types of wool and make assessments on the quality of the fleece to ensure we continue to offer the merchants a consistent high class of fleece wool. The successful candidate will require a high degree of commitment to the role and self-motivation to complete the training and assessment period for the role, which dependent upon the individual's performance, can take up to three years.
All Trainee Graders are offered hands on support by the, Grading Team, Head Grader and Depot Manager on site.
Working Hours: 8.00am to 16.30pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 8.00am to 15.30pm (39 hours per week).
Benefits: The role offers an attractive range of benefits, annual salary will increase as you progress through the training assessments. A contributory pension scheme is available to join, 22 days holiday in the first year in addition to the 8 statutory holidays, after two years continuous service holiday entitlement will increase to 25 days per year.
It would be advantageous for candidates to have a full driving licence due to the rural location of the depot.
