Smart contracts play an important role today, and this won’t change in the future. There are only a few multi-chain smart contract engines in the blockchain world that have been widely adopted, and we are the team behind one of them: CosmWasm. Today, more than 20 chains use our engine, including several of the top 100 blockchains.
The Role
IBC is the most advanced inter-blockchain communication protocol (https://ibcprotocol.org) enabling a large class of multi-chain applications with no reliance on trusted parties. Research began in 2016, design in 2017, and since 2022 it has now been deployed to more than 30 blockchains, creating a new “Internet of Blockchains” (https://mapofzones.com).
Despite the amazing and modular design work, there have only been a handful of protocols deployed to date. With CosmWasm, we allow developers to easily deploy new protocols to both sides of the connection, removing the largest operational challenge (coordinated upgrades). However, the next barrier is the lack of understanding of distributed protocol design by many smart contract developers.
We are looking to hire a developer with a strong background in distributed systems and/or protocol design to join our team in building out a number of foundational protocols that can really maximize the impact and utility of IBC. The role includes design and specification of the protocols, implementation as CosmWasm (Rust) contracts, as well as deployment and testing using our TypeScript relayer toolkit.

We are Confio, the team behind CosmWasm.
We are a fully remote team made up of a mix of different nationalities working from a handful of countries somewhere in Europe with English as our everyday language. Confio was founded in 2020, and we are currently 23 people working here. The core part of the company is developers supported by a handful of marketers and product people. Although we are a young company, we already have a financially sound balance sheet.
We care about our fellow humans and the world in general, and about half of us are parents, so we know how it feels to work in the living room with three grumpy kids in lockdown. We recognize that our lives are difficult, stressed, and complex, and we take and make room for ourselves to manage our work/life balance. It is not long hours that count, but results.
