Job Title: Director Laboratory Services
Department: Laboratory Services.
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Job Summary:
Responsible for the clinical, operational, and financial management of CMH Regional Health System Laboratory Services. The position is primarily responsible for employee engagement and staffing for the laboratory department.
Qualifications:
Education: Must be a Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP) with current registration. Bachelor degree required. Master’s degree in business or health administration preferred.
Experience:
Duties and Responsibilities (essential job functions appear in boldface):
1. Plans, organizes, and directs all departmental activities.
2. Provides overall supervision of departmental personnel and evaluates personnel performance.
3. Acts as a resource person to CMH Regional Health System and Laboratory Services personnel as well as to the medical staff regarding clinical laboratory issues.
4. Leads the development of departmental strategic and operational goals and objectives. Assesses departmental performance in relation to the established goals and objectives.
5. Develops departmental operating and capital budgets. Accountable for insuring those departmental operations are carried on within allocated funds.
6. Develops, maintains, and trends annual departmental quality plan, including quality control, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities.
7. Together with the Pathologist, maintains an effective clinical laboratory quality control program, which at a minimum complies with the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and College of American Pathology (CAP) standards.
8. Recommends and implement as appropriate needed change to effect continual improvement of quality, efficiency, economy, and effectiveness of departmental operations and services rendered.
9. Establishes and maintains working relationships with other CMH Regional Health System employees, departments, and with referring physicians.
10. Ensures Laboratory compliance with Medicare and other third party payer regulations.
11. Ensures maintenance of the Laboratory Information System.
12. Ensures proper maintenance and care of all clinical laboratory equipment.
13. Performs clinical laboratory functions as the situation dictates.
14. Coordinates departmental participation in hospital safety and emergency plans.
15. Coordinates departmental plans for staff continuing education.
16. Develops and implements approved departmental policies, procedures, systems, and standards. Insures compliance therewith.
17. Establishes and maintains needed and required departmental records and reports.
18. Participates in hospital-wide committees
19. Maintains confidential rights of the patient and practices good patient and internal and external customer relationships.
20. Performs all other duties as required or requested.
Physical Demands: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, and listen. The employee may occasionally be required to use hands and fingers to manipulate equipment when providing direct patient care and also to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
