JOB SUMMARY
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current licensure as a registered nurse with the Virginia State Board of Nursing required .
- Healthcare leadership experience preferred.
Minimum Work Experience:
- Two years’ experience as a charge nurse with demonstrated administrative and supervisory competence.
Required Licenses :
- Virginia, United States Registered Nurse
- Current RN license required.
- BLS required.
- ACLS preferred.
- PALS preferred.
- ASLS preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong clinical skills with ability to react decisively in emergency situations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Verbal and written ability to give information and present ideas essential in administrative management. Ability to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing.
- Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department. Ability to discern legal implications in nursing .Leadership ability, integrity, and initiative required.
- Ability to motivate personnel.
- Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.
- Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for collaborating with other departments regarding resources and services for improved patient care.
- Performs functions of a registered nurse – uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients. Supervise and coordinate care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner.
- Provide excellent customer service. Conducts interviews, hires new staff, and takes an active role in the orientation of new staff.
- Completes reports, projects, and unit goals within specified time-frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
- Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psych/social/cultural support. Professionalism – applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research.
- Demonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.
- Maintains EOC standards by knowing and following procedures in emergency management, hazardous material management, life safety, fire safety, infection control and security.
- Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing, planning and assigning nursing care.
- Complies with regulatory requirements and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Works as scheduled, without unplanned absences. Arrives on time and ready to work. Productivity – ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.
- Documentation is reflective of care provided to ensure accurate charges are placed.
- Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients .
- Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system and other unit specific equipment.
