JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the overall operation of the pharmacy department. The position requires extensive contact with the administrator, medical staff, nursing service, hospital staff, and nonhospital personnel (vendors, auditors). This position is responsible for the oversight and leadership of operational and clinical activities and functions of the pharmacy department.
The role participates in department strategic planning and contributes to it's success through effectively communicating goals and expectations to staff, and ensures effective use of system and technology resources, and leverages them to optimize patient care delivery.
The DOP ensure policy and procedures are followed by staff. Responsible to develop, maintain, enhance, and oversee the operations of the clinical pharmacy operations and implement corporate clinical initiatives.
They work closely with nurses, physicians, and Quality/Risk staff to clarify needs, prioritize requests, design workflow to fit with the pharmacy medication system. They also seek the best possible pharmacists and technician staff to care for patients and hospital staff. Handles and orders narcotics for the hospital.
