Job Description:
Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. Provide clinical leadership, strategic and long term goals for the nursing staff. Determine, assign and assess performance objectives for the department. Organize, coordinate, develop and review policies, procedures and nursing protocols to meet all regulatory, compliance and quality care standards.
Responsible for the quality of care, operational and financial efficiency of the unit. Lead and develop the nursing staff within the unit, providing performance goals, feedback and development opportunities. Develop and oversee function/departmental budget and reporting. Direct and conduct recruitment, hiring and training of personnel. Chair committees as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements/objectives of the organizations.
- Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives for the following units: Main Operating Room, Endoscopy, PACU, Sterile Processing and Infusion Services
- Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
- Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
- Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
- Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Minimum Education:
- Associates Degree require
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing highly preferred
- Master's Degree in related field preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- CIS Required within 3 months of hire
- Current RN license to practice in NC
Minimum Work Experience:
- Minimum of five (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse in the Surgery area
- Minimum 1 year management experience preferred.
- Effective communication skills with the medical staff, Executive Director, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Nursing Officer and other administrative directors, personnel and patients.
