JOB TITLE: Echocardiography Tech
SUMMARY
Responsible for obtaining high quality echocardiographic images according to department standards and procedures. Should be able to identify abnormal cardiac findings and diseases in order to prepare preliminary reports for the cardiologists. Ability to work independently excelling in patient care skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS
Strong skills in oral and written communication, customer service, organization, decision making, time management, and interpersonal relations.
Ability to exercise independent judgment. Basic computer skills required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards to patients.
Performs a basic history and physical exam prior to patient's echocardiogram, to obtain a proper indication for exam.
· Performs high quality, accurate non-invasive diagnostic echocardiography, to include TTE and TEE exams along with other cardiac procedures.
· Responsible for safe handling of equipment.
· Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent of invasive procedures.
· Interprets the findings of each exam and is able to accurately report the findings in as a preliminary report format in a timely manner upon completion of the study.
· Sends all information to appropriate archive storage efficiently and effectively.
· Practices medical aseptic procedures.
· Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.
· Must possess knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments
· Practices continuing Infection Control with proper equipment and room cleaning, in order to provide a safe environment for all patients, at all times.
· Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and JC regulations related to the Cardiology Services Department and, as appropriate, to the facility.
· Actively participates in performance improvement and quality assurance activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires a considerable amount of physical work up to 50 pounds. Any work load exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance. The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients. The individual must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull to perform certain duties of this position. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
WORK ENVIRONMENTS
The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in a temperature controlled environment with varying exposure to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position may have exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
