Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Financial Accountant applies the accounting policies and practices as developed by financial management and performs daily accounting procedures; conducts procedures and maintains systems necessary to maintain proper records and sound internal accounting controls and services as mandated by the RCCH accounting guidelines as well as those of the hospital; directly participates in the monthly close process, performing one or more portions of the close process. This position may function as a lead resource in a specific area such as fixed asset accounting, treasury accounting or financial reporting, actively participate in account reconciliations such as bank reconciliations, fixed asset ledgers or other balance sheet accounts as requested and participate in one or more portions of the monthly and quarterly reporting to RCCH. This position will maintain strict checks and balances to ensure that accounts are in balance and properly accounted for prior to closing. The position will prepare, review, reconcile and analyze information supporting accounts and items contained in financial statements and budgets. It will provide appropriate quality and professional work according to established performance standards and policies of the accounting department and GAAP.
Level 1 - Skilled Prepare and maintain journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis and subsidiary ledgers. Under general guidance, maintain all accounting records in strict accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and ensures adherence to with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as developed by the organization. Ensure record systems are maintained and ensures adherence to state and federal policies, procedures and regulations. Participate in one or more key segments of accounting such as cash, inventory, receivables, fixed assets, leases and other debt instruments, possibly taking lead role in one of those segments.
Provide daily and ongoing maintenance of general ledger; prepare department, divisional and consolidated operating and financial statements. Participate in the monthly close process. Participate in account reconciliations such as bank reconciliations, fixed asset ledgers or other balance sheet accounts as requested. Complete monthly and quarterly reporting. Prepare audit and/ or tax work papers for assigned areas. May produce financial statements and budget-to-actual reports. Participate in department operations improvement efforts through implementation of short and long-term strategic goals.
Utilize accounting skills to assess, plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and document while working on complex projects such as preparing monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, program reviews and various regulatory reports.
Consult with and advise senior financial management on technical or operational problems identified through the accounting and reporting processes; recommend changes in accounting or other financial practices to carry out the organization’s objectives more effectively.
Level 2 - Proficient (in addition to above duties) Participate in department operations improvement efforts through implementation of short and long-term goals. Provide feedback on processes and procedures. Utilize accounting skills to assess, plan, implement, and monitor projects and document work while working on complex projects.
Level 3 - Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties) Design and implement routine or ad hoc reports. Consult and advise financial management on technical or operational problems identified through the accounting and reporting processes. Recommend changes and new procedures and protocols based on identified needs.
Relationships: Report to Accounting Manager. May serve as a person interacting with external or internal auditors on a given area of finance within the specialized knowledge and experience of the accountant; assist the Accounting Manager in preparing a trial balance and prepare financial statements for audit on a periodic basis; and maintain collaborative and partner relationships with leadership of all entities accounted for within the organization.
