Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic, digitally savvy Marketing Director for the company’s Media group, which encompasses the Library Journal, School Library Journal, and The Horn Book brands. This primarily involves developing and implementing brand-aligned initiatives and strategically managing resources to drive audience growth and deepen engagement across multiple print, digital, and events-based channels. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience with executing marketing communications programs across various platforms (e.g. web, social, email), knowledge of evolving marketing techniques, a passion for the job, and a collaborative and creative mindset.
Responsibilities:
- Create, implement, and maintain marketing strategy across print, digital, and social media channels
- Direct and support the day-to-day activities and workflows of small, in-house marketing team delivering high volume of eblasts, newsletters, marketing collateral, etc., ensuring high quality and product excellence
- Work with inside and outside stakeholders to develop, execute, and manage marketing programs and communications for all events and online courses in line with audience development best practices to meet business goals.
- Synthesize market, customer, and company data to build internal market knowledge as well as external brand awareness and champion our product offerings.
- Craft compelling integrated marketing messages across channels. Coordinate messaging with other corporate divisions, when needed
- Leverage, analyze, and share insights into SEO performance and other usage data to understand and optimize website, newsletter, email, and social performance
- Liaise with third-party subscription agency to support digital platform meter performance, deepen funnel engagement, and drive subscription growth
- Measure and report on the performance of every marketing channel and campaign, gain insight and assess versus goals.
- Establish effective cross-departmental relationships to achieve brand objectives
- Scope and manage brand presence at events, conferences, etc.
- Serve as point media contact
Needed experience and competencies:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- Experience: 5+ years related experience preferred. Experience with and/or knowledge of libraries and education ecosystem a plus
- Proven track record running a marketing growth strategy and driving measurable results
- Learning mindset, bringing emerging best practices to bear on the business
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to organize workflow, prioritize and manage multiple projects with minimal direction, meet deadlines, think critically and creatively, and exercise sound judgment.
- Effective and inclusive team management skills and experience
- Outstanding copy writing and interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience with database/account-based marketing
- Strong working knowledge of Google Analytics; email, social media, and digital marketing platforms; and Event Marketing and design principles
- Sense of urgency and bias towards action
- Performs effectively in conditions of ambiguity
- Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a passion for process improvement
