JOB DESCRIPTION
Payroll Manager
We are looking for a high-energy leader who operates with a strong sense of urgency in getting things done accurately and timely while motivating others within the payroll function to do the same. You will be responsible for ensuring the accurate completion of all employee pay and coordinating updates, changes, or onboarding needs within the company payroll system. You will ensure the Company meets all legal requirements for taxes, audits, and other reporting. You will also oversee monthly reporting for unions in multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of timekeepers and payroll clerks in multiple states to ensure timely processing of weekly payroll for over 2,000 employees (exempt, non-exempt, and union)
- Ensure proper payroll reconciliation and verification prior to transmission
- Understand and comply with relevant laws and internal policies
- Supervise third party payroll processors for employees in foreign countries
- Oversee processing of payroll changes (new hires, terminations, raises)
- Supervise and coach payroll clerks and assistants
- Coordinate with auditors and manage payroll tax audits
- Collaborate with Human Resources and accounting teams
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:
- Proven experience as a payroll manager or similar role
- Current knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws
- Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
- Familiarity with union reporting
- 5+ years of experience managing a multi-state payroll department, including staff
- Willing to work overtime when necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field is preferred but not required.
- Certified Payroll Professional designation is preferred but not required.
- Experience in the construction or manufacturing industries is preferred but not required.
- Experience interpreting union contracts is preferred but not required.
