JOB SUMMARY
Evaluates, documents, plans, implements, and monitors Physical Therapy Services under physician orders to improve, restore the functional level of patients to maximize their potential at work, home, or play
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Education Graduation completed from a Physical Therapy program. Current licensure or eligibility to obtain in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Completes obligatory hospital in-services and education to maintain licensure.
- Required Licenses [Virginia, United States] Physical Therapist
- BLS required.
- Required Skills Strong clinical skills with ability to react decisively in emergency situations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department. Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner. Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs comprehensive patient evaluations and re-evaluations in regard to patient’s needs. Provides quality in and outpatient physical therapy treatments.
- Educates and provides effective communication skills with patients, family members, and inter-department staff as needed. In-services other disciplines/Participates in teams to educate others in Physical Therapy techniques.
- Supervises LPTA’s and students providing effective feedback in a professional manner.
- Assists in keeping work area clean, orderly, and professional. Documents patient treatments daily, submits quarterly status reports, &completes D/C summaries. Assists Rehab Services Office Coordinator as needed with scheduling return visits in relation to customer service policy.
- Turns in daily treatment charges to the Rehab Services Office Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Communicates with physicians on a regular basis concerning patient treatments/response to care.
- Maintains patient’s confidentiality.
- Maintains work area and equipment with appropriate infection prevention techniques.
- Follows up with patient’s that no-show or cancel appointments by phone, and documents appropriately.
- Participates actively in bi-monthly patient care conferences and attends monthly staff meetings.
- Assists teammates with patient care coverage when needed.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
- Be able to tolerate sitting/ standing for periods up to 45-60 minutes for treatment, documentation, or meetings.
- Standing and walking often throughout the day depending on schedule in the office and hospital, climbing stairs not necessary, although may be done to reach various floors in the hospital.
- Walking intermittently throughout the hospital and clinic on various surfaces. Lifting – Regularly assist with lift and transfer of patients in the clinic or in hospital departments from stand-by to maximal assistance up to heavy weights. Bending – Required often for patient care and departmental duties at levels from floor to overhead. Reading and Writing – Regularly required to follow job description.
- Exposure to infectious diseases – occasionally. Exposure to hazardous waste – rarely.
