You will report to the Product Development Manager in the Global Rigid Paper Technology team. Our packaging technology team is constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to develop packaging solutions that are cost-efficient, product-safety complaint, and more sustainable. We serve as a valued partner to our corporate customers to help them reduce the environmental impact of their packaging.
What you'll be doing:
- Manage a portfolio of projects and ensure it is aligned with the business priorities
- Formulate and execute major product development programs
- Lead a multifunctional team through the stage-gate process, identify the resources that are needed, allocate tasks, prioritize, and make himself/herself and the team members accountable for delivering
- Define the projects’ success criteria, draw conclusions based on data and make technical recommendations
- Build prototypes; create new test methods and new processes
- Manage technology transfer to pilot and production operations
- Use business acumen to screen, advance creative ideas and accomplish profitable use of technologies
- Plan and execute development plans, project timelines, project budgets, learning plans, qualification protocols, etc.
- Coordinate raw material testing in laboratory and pilot/production lines. Write professional trial plans and trial reports
- Develop solutions for problems under pressure of time and budgets
- Maintain complete and accurate work records, to include documentation for intellectual property protection
- Develop and manage collaboration agreements with universities and other outside organizations when warranted
- Coordinate and execute work on various simultaneous assignments
- Recommend and execute the implementation of business processes to improve our team efficiency and effectiveness
- Demonstrate excellent communication – technical writing, formal and informal presentation. Communicate effectively to all stakeholders
- Collaborate with the technical team members of our key customers, and collaborate with the Business Development, Marketing and Sales teams to identify and pursue new growth opportunities
- Collaborate with the technical team members of our key suppliers and collaborate with the Engineering and Supply Management teams to identify and qualify new raw materials and new equipment/processes
- Maintain a current knowledge of available and future technology, market trends, and customers’ innovations and needs.
- Travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing plants, suppliers, customers, conferences, and other innovation partners
- This position will be part of the Global Rigid Paper Technology team which develops fiber-based packaging for food and consumer applications for the world’s most recognized brands. You will be located at our corporate headquarters in Hartsville, SC which is close to exciting destinations (Myrtle Beach, SC; Charleston, SC; Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC).
We'd love to hear from you if:
- Have an undergraduate degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Paper Science, Material Science, Chemistry, or similar (required)
- 5+ years of experience in research and development/ product development/ innovation
- 5+ years of project management experience, leading cross-functional teams from concept to commercialization
- Proven success delivering financial impact through organic growth and margin improvement through innovation
- Experience in problem solving, root cause analysis, data analysis, and statistics
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary customer teams in B2B market
- Experience working in a global matrix organization through influencing and networking
