The essential functions of the position include:
- The safety and health of employees take precedence over all duties of this job.
- Chairs the plant’s safety committee, attends committee meetings, and coordinates committee and Team activities. Develops meeting agenda and issues meeting minutes.
- Along with the safety committee, assists in developing and monitoring progress of all aspects of the Safety Action Plan and Safety and Safety Pillar Team.
- Facilitates incident investigations and assists in developing and implementing corrective actions.
- Conducts/coordinates safety training, including safety orientation of new employees and temporary employees, and maintain training logs/records.
- Coordinates the development and updating of safety documentation, including oversight of the LOTO and HAZCOM coordinators, as well a site safety procedure and JSA’s for all manufacturing and administration positions.
- Attend all Company safety training and webinars and achieve OSHA 30 hour certification.
- Assists safety inspection team to conduct safety audits and monitors corrective actions.
- Assists site manager in maintaining compliance with all Federal and State OSHA, Sonoco, and Plant Safety and health policies.
Physical demands of the position include:
- Ability to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Ability to frequently bend, stand, stoop and grasp.
- Ability to manipulate small parts on a consistent basis.
Qualifications:
- HS diploma or Associates degree or equivalent
- Experience in manufacturing, production management, production planning
- Leadership experience; either from a safety team leader up to formal supervisory experience
- Safety experience or certifications (in Safety)
- Working knowledge of Company SPS/safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- This role requires to be first aid certification annually.
- Must have good communications skills. Ability to conduct meetings, presentation and facilitate discussion.
- Ability to create presentation and training materials and present to production employees and/or executives
- Must have good organizational skills
- Ability to think outside the box.
- Bilingual preferred English and Spanish but not required
