Role Overview
- The Health and Wellbeing Department deliver a range of programmes to improve the health of our participants. We target those most in need and utilise community based, person-centred approaches to deliver excellent programmes.
- This exciting post will work specifically to deliver and manage the volunteer led Healthy Walks programme in Lewisham. The postholder will be responsible for all aspects of the programme, this will include supervising volunteers, promoting local physical activity opportunities and developing new activities.
- We are looking for someone who has experience of managing projects in a similar field. We encourage applicants from the local area to apply as local knowledge will be important for success in this role. You should be comfortable communicating with a wide range of partners, have strong organisational skills, and good problem-solving abilities.
Job Purpose
- Responsible for leading the Healthy Walks programme in Lewisham. The post holder will manage existing walks and develop new activities to increase physical activity across the borough of Lewisham.
- To promote physical activity opportunities across Lewisham through newsletters, workshops, and other events.
- Responsible for management and development of all aspects of the Healthy Walks programme in Lewisham. This includes planning, development, delivery, promotion, and reporting.
- Responsible for a programme of physical activity opportunity promotion to local residents.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and delivery staff. This includes rewarding volunteers and motivating the team.
- Develop partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery and growth of the Lewisham Healthy Walks programme.
- Work in partnership with Ramblers Wellbeing Walks to ensure the Lewisham Healthy Walks meet standards and requirements of being a Ramblers Wellbeing Walk.
- Working with Enable Marketing and Communications department create and implement a marketing and communication plan. This will include press releases, social media activity, producing promotional literature.
- Attend community events to promote the Healthy Walks programme and other physical activity opportunities.
- Manage project and programme budgets as required. Monitor and document income and expenditure according to Enable LC policy and procedure.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of your work. Provide written reports, summaries, and presentations as required.
- Manage key performance data from walks, including the collection of this data. Record key outcomes and indicators effectively to ensure reporting is accurate and delivered on-time.
Identify and apply for additional funds to support the growth of the programme. - Assists in managing resources provided to support the departments work including staff, volunteers, materials, and equipment ensuring these are used and maintained effectively.
- Holds an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification in health, sport or exercise sciences (or similar) to demonstrate expertise
- Experience of recruiting, deploying, supervising and training volunteers, including strategies for motivating and rewarding them.
- Experience of physical activity or sports development work or similar employment/voluntary role
- Experience of working with target groups to encourage participation in physical activity or sport.
- Project management experience, preferably relating to working with partner organisations and planning, delivering and evaluating projects.
- Knowledge & awareness of relevant national, regional and local policies and initiatives within health, physical activity and public health.
- Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of physical activity, and the barriers to being physically active.
- Knowledge of the wider determinants of health, including social, economic and environmental factors.
- Knowledge and understanding of Ramblers Wellbeing Walks.
- Local knowledge of Lewisham and awareness of the voluntary and community services that operate in the borough.
