Overview

 

  • As a Menopause Health Coach you will help people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to holistically manage their menopause symptoms. Menopause Health Coaches will use health coaching, motivational interviewing and behaviour change skills to empower people to better cope with their symptoms. The role will take a holistic, non-medical approach that helps increase people's ability to access support and self-management education.  
  • The successful candidate will join our Health and Wellbeing Team which has experience of delivering community support across London. The role will be based in the community setting in Wandsworth and work closely with GP’s and other healthcare professionals.  
  • In the role, you will work with individuals who have been invited to receive this dedicated support as part of Enable’s menopause pilot. Individuals recruited to the pilot will be experiencing early on-set menopause, the peri-menopause, menopause or post-menopause and your role will be to provide emotional support, implement coping mechanisms as well as increasing confidence levels of participants to improve how they cope with their individual symptoms.  
  • Menopause Health Coaches will be excellent communicators, passionate about personalised care and dedicated to reducing women’s health inequalities in regard to the menopause. You will be able to work flexibly and adapt as the pilot evolves over time, contributing feedback to support the ongoing development of the project.  

 

Job Purpose 

 

  • The post holder will work with individuals who are experiencing early on-set menopause, peri-menopause, menopause or post-menopause. Through direct contact with the client group, seek to help individuals cope with their symptoms and build their confidence in speaking with GPs about their symptoms and raise awareness of support.  
  • Provide personalised health coaching and deliver one to one appointments to people with long term health conditions.  
  • Use health coaching and motivational interviewing skills to support behaviour change.  
  • Facilitate a menopause peer support session (virtual and in person). 
  • Develop strong working relationships and provide personalised care alongside other health and social care professionals.  

 

Our key expectations of the Menopause Health Coach role are: 

 

  • Impact positively on increasing individuals confidence and capability to cope with menopause symptoms. 
  • The post holder is responsible for creating an innovative way of supporting individuals experiencing any menopause phase. They will facilitate discussions and advise colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted for future development of the service and oversee their delivery.  
  • Lead in removing potential barriers and stigma associated with the menopause.  
  • Empower individuals to attend the menopause peer support sessions, and become advocates for the menopause, sharing both positive and negative experiences, and educating others about the menopause.  
  • A further element of the role would be coordination, sharing and learning of the work with the research and development working group at Enable to feed into the work associated with this pilot.  
  • The post holder must be proficient in creating and maintaining Community Care Plans in conjunction with the client to provide bespoke care in a preferred setting. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Person-centred care and support  

 

  • Deliver effective health coaching sessions using a holistic and person-centred approach that helps people focus on what matters to them.  
  • Empower people to take control of their own wellbeing by building their confidence, motivating them to set goals and creating personalised action plans. Support people to access to appropriate community support and self-management education. 
  • Support people to overcome their personal barriers to make positive lifestyle changes. 

Key Working Relationships  

 

  • The post holder will be required to communicate and provide highly complex information to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Nurture key relationships and maintain networks internally and externally, including national networks. This includes building relationships with wide range of supporting organisations, 3rd sector groups that may provide services of benefit to individuals experiencing the menopause.  

Service Quality and Development  

 

  • Collect and record outcome, monitoring and impact data using required systems, contributing to the evaluation of the service.  
  • Manage own case load to ensure clients receive appropriate levels of support and expectations are met.  
  • Gather client feedback to evaluate the quality of the service and to inform service changes and developments.   
  • Keep up to date with key changes in the health and social care sector in order to shape and develop the service, including those relating to good practice and policy.  
  • Lead by example by demonstrating excellent customer service, delivery skills, organisation and professionalism. 
  • Work with your line manager to identify your own support needs and undertake continual personal and professional development.

  • To be fully aware of the principles of safeguarding as they apply to children and vulnerable adults in relation to your work role. Always follow safeguarding procedures and ensure that your line manager is kept fully informed of any safeguarding concerns. 
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities that contribute to the overall function of the team, appropriate with the grading of the post.  
  • To apply a flexible approach to working in different environments including from home, GP practices, healthcare settings, community venues and Enable offices.  
  • To travel inside or outside the borough when required.  

 

Person Specification

  1. Experience in a role that involves delivering face to face support in a related environment.  
  2. Experience adopting a person-centred approach and empowering people to make informed choices.  
  3. Experience of supporting individuals with health conditions to make lifestyle changes
  4. Motivational interviewing, behaviour change, or health coaching qualification or willingness to undertake training  
  5. Knowledge of the stages of menopause and awareness of non-medical support available and how lifestyle behaviours impact on health and long-term conditions. 
  6. Knowledge of the wider determinants of health, including social, economic and environmental factors.  
  7. Understanding of personalisation, health coaching and the skills required to support self-care.  
  8. An understanding of the principles of confidentiality and how these apply when handling service-user information.
  9. Excellent ability to adapt and work flexibly as a project evolves. Able to work effectively with others in an open and collaborative way, valuing differences and contributing to a working environment which helps to achieve goals. 
  10. Good ability to use Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and other online client monitoring systems or tools as required. 
  11. Ability to use coaching skills to support and motivate people with a wide range of health and wellbeing needs. 
  12. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to listen actively and build excellent rapport with people from all backgrounds.  
  13. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written; able to communicate in a meaningful way and develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.   
  14. Excellent organisation, planning and time management skills
  15. Able to collect and record data to enable the monitoring of key performance indicators, reporting on them as and when required. 
  16. Able to work unsupervised to meet agreed outcomes, targets and deadlines. 
  17. Ability to identify risk, assess and manage risk when working with patients.   
  18. Able to demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and ability to work well under pressure. 
  19. Commitment to working in deprived communities and reducing health inequalities.
