Location
Our UK headquarters is based in Poole on the Dorset coast with its bustling quay, some of the best beaches in the UK and a stunning natural harbour. There is easy access to the Dorset countryside, the New Forest and the spectacular Jurassic Coast. Our main office is 1 mile from Poole railway station with good public transport links and close to both Bournemouth and Southampton international airports.
We offer a hybrid working style, which is typically three days in the office and two days remote working.
Role Summary
Responsible for leading a strategically important programme and delivering highly technological products in a complex environment with demanding timescales. Through their leadership and attention to detail the selected candidate will ensure the success of the project.
The programme is entering a phase of multiple hardware and software customer acceptance and system go live events and this will require frequent customer interaction lead meetings, workshops and present at reviews to senior customer representatives.
The selected candidate will be the main point of contact for the programme with responsibility to deliver to cost and schedule. They will ensure adherence to commercial scope and that costs are tracked against budget, with internal and external milestones tracked against the committed schedule. They will manage the full project scope.
Responsibilities
- Ensure project schedule and budget are tracked and remain on target. Identify any deviations and take corrective action
- Provide regular financial and status reporting
- Prepare and maintain the profit and loss statement including cash flow
- Manage the project managers within the programme
- Oversee the delivery of the Programme in conjunction with the Technical Lead
- Provide the necessary support for tenders, commercial events and customer presentations
- Contribute to the development of a hardware and software product and delivery strategy
- Provide primary main point of contact and escalation for project matters
- Manage customer expectations and ensure that they are met or exceeded
- Provide leadership in the resolution of issues and challenges
- Ensure the project team understand project goals
- Prepare and maintain the project schedule
- Prepare written reports as required
- Manage the project risks and issues register
- Ensure resources are in place to deliver projects
- Ensure each team member understands their role, the activities assigned to them, the deliverables expected from them and the resources and timescales available to them
- Liaise with other departments necessary for delivery of the project, including Hardware and Software Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Commercial, Field Services, Technical Support, and Product Development
- Oversee the negotiation of contract variations with the customer
- Ensure timely and professional responses to the customer
- Ensure all customer commitments are met
- Ensure customer invoicing is completed in line with project schedules
Experience
The Programme Manager will need experience of the whole project lifecycle from bidding to warranty support and is likely to have experience of the delivery of complex systems.
Strong candidates will have previously worked in programmes or managed projects which include substantial hardware and software development. They will have a proven track record of delivery to external customers. Their customer-facing skills and project management competences are of the highest importance to the role.

- Academic qualification probably to degree level accompanied by demonstrable experience of successful project delivery over your career
- Ability to manage complex projects
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral communication and time management and be used to working to deadlines
- Strong commercial skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft and Google business software environments (spreadsheets, email, word processing)
- Understanding of the project and engineering lifecycle and software and/or systems engineering experience
