SYSTEM OPERATIONS ENGINEER 

 

Flowbird, Poole is seeking a System Implementation Engineer to enable the Systems team to continue to fulfil analysis, configuration, and support and deliver obligations across all Projects and Products. 

 

The Systems team is responsible for the following activities: 

  • Installation, monitoring and maintenance of the platform (Cloud or On-Premise servers).
  • Installation, monitoring and maintenance of the Back Office applications (Cloud or On-Premise servers).
  • Installation, monitoring and maintenance of the applications (All Front-End devices).
  • Tier-3 support activities to support Customer Support team (Tier-1 and Tier-2).
  • Interface to the Engineering teams via the Systems Maintenance Board (SMB).
  • Support Project Managers in the configuration and Rollout of new projects or project updates/enhancements.

Our UK headquarters is based in Poole on the Dorset coast with its bustling quay, some of the best beaches in the UK and a stunning natural harbour. There is easy access to the Dorset countryside, the New Forest and the spectacular Jurassic Coast. Our main office is 1 mile from Poole railway station with good public transport links and close to both Bournemouth and Southampton international airports. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, modify and investigate Flowbird Back Office Systems and Front-End devices to ensure requirements are achieved.
  • Assist in the capture of customer requirements and translation to system requirements.
  • On-site commissioning of network devices to establish system wide communication.
  • Undertake End-to-End system test activities (On-Site and In-House) as required.
  • Conduct remote and on-site system updates as necessary on all Flowbird devices.
  • Check the flow and integrity of transaction data across Bus, Rail and Multi-Modal systems.
  • Review and confirm that configuration and installation instructions remain accurate.
  • Ensure software versions and system structures are as defined by the relevant design authority.
  • Diagnose, document and produce comprehensive reports of faults found.
  • Support Customer Support, Test Department and Project delivery teams when needed.
  • Provide third line support to the Customer Support department as required.
  • Become acquainted with the relevant industry and technology standards as required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients in conjunction with other departments.
  • Investigate and update ServiceNow incidents regularly for visibility within Flowbird.
  • Contribute to inter-departmental communication and meetings in order to ensure that systems transition in accordance with the Business Management System (BMS).
  • Contribute toward the improvement of applicable quality procedures and documentation.
  • Liaise with relevant representatives from the Client or related suppliers as required.

 

Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in Information Technology, Software Development or System Analysis/Configuration.
  • Customer facing experience is also desired (Internal & External customers)

 

Core skills: 

  • MS Windows, MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint. 
  • SQL/Postgres/ORACLE database experience.
  • Scripting languages (SQL/Pearl/Python etc.)
  • Working knowledge of networking and associated protocols. 
  • Very good knowledge of PCs, Windows and PC Networks.
  • A good I.T. background in networks, Firewalls, PC’s and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of Cloud based configuration and maintenance is advantageous.
  • An understanding of relevant technologies would be beneficial, but not essential (e.g. RS232, RS485, Ethernet, Wired/Wireless Networking, TCP/IP, VPN, Mifare, NFC, ITSO)
  • Knowledge of software development processes (AGILE) and best practices.
  • Knowledge of JIRA and ServiceNow tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
