Director of Project Management (DPM) Job Summary

 

The Director of Project Management provides strategic direction for projects within GXC, initially will require performance of all roles of Project Management. May oversee the work of project managers or manage organization-wide projects. Oversees and coordinates the resources needed for projects with a defined scope, start and completion point. 

The DPM develops and directs project management operations and strategic planning to meet organizational goals. Provides overall strategic guidance for projects by establishing standards, process, and tools used for effective project delivery. Defines productivity and quality targets and assesses results for all projects. Monitors and analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses and to propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions with the leadership team.

 

Director of Project Management Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

This is a hands-on position, where the successful candidate must be willing and able to perform all elements of Project Management under the direction of the Chief Technical Officer. Takes personal responsibility for the achievement of corporate goals on time, on track, and on budget.

Will eventually lead and coach the project management team to achieve business objectives:

  • Creates plans for project implementation and monitors progress to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Evaluates potential risks and developing contingency plans to minimize potential problems
  • Oversees the development of project documentation including scope statements, schedules, and budgets
  • Provides reports to Program Management and the Leadership Team
  • Assigns resources to projects based on skill sets and availability, making adjustments as needed
  • Manages client relationships and building rapport with clients to ensure ongoing cooperation throughout the duration of a project
  • Monitors the budget throughout a project to identify areas where cost overruns may occur
  • Reviews project plans to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices
  • Ensures that all deliverables are completed on time and within budget
  • Coordinates team interactions to ensure that all members are engaged in the project and understand their responsibilities

Director of Project Management Job Requirements and Qualifications:

 

  • Willingness and ability to be “hands on” in the active project(s)
  • 7+ years of experience working in Project Management, 4+ years in leadership roles
  • PMI certification a plus
  • Must have excellent technical understanding, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven strong management skills, strategic thinking, and experience in a leadership role with visibility to senior management
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Exceptional knowledge of performance evaluation and change management principles
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of program/project management software (Basecamp, MS Project) is a strong advantage
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills

Strongly Desired: Technical Areas of expertise:

 

Wireless technologies: 

  • 4G LTE, 5G or WiFi RAN infrastructure with deep knowledge of technical, ecosystem and business aspects
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and build management
