Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Mechanical Design Engineering Team Lead to oversee and guide a team of engineers in the development of cutting-edge mechanical systems and components. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills to drive innovation, ensure high-quality deliverables, and foster collaboration. This role involves hands-on design work as well as mentoring and supporting the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, providing guidance, and technical support.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure project deliverables meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and innovative team environment
- Design and Development:
- Oversee the design and development of mechanical components and systems.
- Review and approve CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Technical Expertise:
- Perform advanced design, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
- Conduct design reviews to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Utilize simulation and FEA tools to validate and optimize designs.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and other engineers.
- Work closely with project management to contribute to project schedule and budget development and maintenance
- Communicate work status, challenges, and solutions to project management
- Support contractor management as technical point of contact as required
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the design team.
- Stay updated with advancements in mechanical engineering tools, materials, and methodologies.
- Implement best practices for design workflows and documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical design, including leadership or mentorship roles.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (e.g. CNC, injection molding), GD&T, and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Proven experience in leading design teams.
- Familiarity with DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly).
- Knowledge of rapid prototyping, 3D printing technologies, and emerging trends in mechanical design.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance standards for the industry.
- Experience with design for injection molding
- Experience with motors and motor control
- Familiarity with electronics such as soldering, crimping, and the integration of electronics into mechanical designs
- Familiarity with wire harnesses
- Experience with customer-facing programs and application integration
