Job Purpose
You will be part of an award-winning team who create trailers, TV spots, creative content, and social AV for films, TV series and entertainment properties across multiple genres, to brief, and to a world-class standard. You will work with the Production, Editorial and Motion Design teams across London, Amsterdam, New York, LA and Melbourne to produce eye-catching, thumb-stopping and mind-blowing creative. You will be unphased by tight deadlines and be able to deal with the pressure of Studio/Streamer clients with a positive, proactive attitude that sets a standard and an inspiration for juniors.
Please note, that this is an, in person, office-based role in our Manhattan office.
Main Responsibilities
- Offline editing short form AV including Promos, Creative Content, TV, Digital and Trailers.
- Bring a fresh creative perspective and approach to each project.
- Create thorough, flexible, and tidy footage selects for the project.
- Be able to edit and adapt to a variety of styles and genres from comedy to drama and everything in between.
- Independently – and confidently - interpret and work to client briefs and feedback and stay receptive to feedback from various internal and external stakeholders.
- Show conceptual thinking and be able to contribute to ideation meetings, pitches, and decks.
- Be comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone to devise different solutions to briefs and feedback.
- Attend client calls and work directly with the client in attended edits, when needed.
- Have ownership of creative tasks, be self-motivated in project involvement, and ensure any quiet time is spent productively.
- Actively build your skills across different types of creative editorial, and genres of films and shows.
- Continually improve current knowledge of relevant technology and practices to develop your skills.
- Collaborate with producers and designers across the wider Intermission team to deliver projects to the highest possible standard.
- Work alongside other editors and support where necessary. Help train and support Edit Assistants and Junior Editors.
- Have a varied music diet and carry out music searches, and actively participate in briefings music supervisors.
- Source SFX and sound design from our internal and external libraries.
- Understand the licensing implications of music and footage used in your edit and what is cleared for use, be able to interpret client archive and cue sheets.
- Understand broadcast and deliverable specifications.
- Ensure sequences and projects are kept tidy and based on our in-house workflow.
- Create a variety of Avid exports including presented cuts and finishing materials (Pic/Audio AAFs, QT Refs, EDLs etc.) and ensure excellent quality control of all exports created.
- Be an active participant in the finishing and QC process when your edits are mixed and onlined.
- Be fully up to speed and understand the importance of all our security protocols.
- Keep accurate timesheets on all projects worked on.
Qualities and Attributes
- Self-motivated, organized, and willing to take initiative in a busy environment.
- Passionate about film, TV, entertainment, and creative content with a strong understanding of the broadcast / theatrical / digital and streaming marketing space and a desire to keep up to date with industry news and trends.
- A collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and multi-task under pressure and tight deadlines.
- An extensive understanding of short form storytelling and narrative conventions, but equally not afraid to break narrative rules and structures to produce unique and dynamic creatives when needed.
- Be able to work independently on creative, yet open to feedback from other members of the team.
- Understand nuances between different types of clients (e.g. independent/studio, sales agent/distributor), and adapt your work accordingly.
- Interested to learn of work being carried out across the whole company.
- Understand Intermission’s values, business strategy and creative goals.
- Realize that our clients demand the highest possible standards, which requires going above and beyond and occasionally results in out-of-hours work.
Experience & requirements
- Have 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Excellent professional experience working in AVID is required, with strong knowledge of plugins and effects.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro is desired.
- Strong knowledge of finishing, frame rates and aspect ratios.
- Excellent knowledge of media management and project organization: back-up, ingest, transcode, export.
- Professional level written and spoken English.
