Responsibilities:
- Is responsible for leading a Complete Seat project. Has full responsibility for all aspects of the successful design, development, testing, and support of manufacturing for the project. Provides a front-line customer engineering interface for the project. Develops and provides resolution to technical issues while working with Program Management, Quality, and Advanced Manufacturing.
- Provides and supports project direction to designers and support personnel. Provides solutions to meet all technical and project issues and works with the team to ensure time and cost objectives are met. Implements and facilitates the use of best practices in engineering. Is capable of communicating effectively with management.
- Demonstrates drive to achieve project objectives, is personally involved in critical tasks, can make timely decisions, and elevates as appropriate. Interfaces with Adient employees, suppliers, and customers ensuring that good positive relations are maintained in all situations and environments.
- Has solid analytical skills, is a proficient problem solver and solution provider who can balance conflicting requirements and risk. Has product launch experience.
Specific Functions—Technical Responsibilities:
- Supports technical design reviews as necessary.
- Applies best practices to layout drawings, detail drawings, and assembly drawings. Ensures that no packaging or interference problems exist in the drawings/data.
- Facilitates, develops, and implements best practices in design and engineering. This includes but is not limited to drawing standards, FEA, GD&T, root cause analysis, DVP, DFMEA, hand calculations.
- Executes robust design/design changes to provide the highest quality in the build and assembly of prototype parts with the agreed-to process. Ensures that the design and engineering data is released on time to ensure the highest quality assemblies for testing and the customer.
- Leads root cause analysis in the resolution of any test failures. Ensures the appropriate management teams are aware of any potential safety concern.
- Generates optimized DVP&R with appropriate support groups assuring the minimum number of prototypes are being tested and the best choice of reliability techniques are used to determine test duration, number of samples, and types of tests.
- Generates DFMEAs prior to the release of prototype tooling.
- Reviews FEA/analysis/testing prior to finalizing concept, the release of prototype tooling, and release of production tooling to ensure the design meets desired criteria/specifications.
- Supports the development of technical solutions to define and meet business objectives (cost, performance, timing, weight, and investment).
- Executes best practices and early detection for BSR
Required Skills:
- Automotive & complete seat experience. Seat structure and mechanism experience will also be considered.
- Solid analytical skill with problem solving experience. Kepner Tregoe, BOB/WOW, 6 Pack studies, 5 penny, 4M etc. Able to explain 2 or more problems resolved with complete root cause.
- Good understanding the DFMEA, develop open issues or close issue with DFMEA.
- Be front line interface with customers, suppliers and cross functional teams (able to track the open issues, DFMEA, DVP, testing, tolerance stacks, hand calculations, craftsmanship data analysis etc.)
- Capable of communicating with management (know your audience expectations and present during meeting).
- Education Required: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
- Experience Required: 5+ years in engineering
