About the company
Our mission is to help as many people as we can live a happy, flexible, but sustainable worklife. The happy comes from carving your own path and by gaining the flexibility and variety many people seek. The sustainable comes from doing the gig economy properly - that means at least minimum wage. It means guaranteed holiday pay. And it means a pension for everyone.
For businesses, we help them access, hire and manage a new breed of worker - one who doesn't want to be tied down, and as a result is more interesting, diverse and talented than before. The benefits of limber for hiring business are: immediate access to talent; complete flexibility; and total convenience - the hiring process from search to payroll is a matter of taps.
limber started out in the hospitality industry - providing a way for restaurants, bars and cafes to connect with staff and for those staff to work with flexibility and variety.
Now, limber is branching out. From white labelling our technology for the horticultural sector to tackling covid-19 related staffing crisis in education, we're on a mission to ensure our technology has the biggest impact.
We’re a teeny team - Chris, Egon, Emily and Ben make up limber HQ, along with 50,000+ members of the limber community (and counting).
About the role
You’ll work alongside the CTO and founder across all of limber’s stack. Here are just some of the things we could be doing in the next 6-12 months:
We’re looking for someone who will be happy and comfortable in our environment and will thrive in our small team, which punches way above its weight!
“Lean” and “agile” are now the most overused word in startups, so we prefer to call ourselves limber! We run a kanban process at the moment for our product development - making sure we don’t plan too far ahead when it comes to new features.
It’s about as a free and flexible environment as you’ll get so you should expect uncertainty, expect rapidly evolving commercial considerations and expect to be faced with finite time and resources. We all love that environment and support each other through it - we wouldn’t have it any other way.
We’re looking for someone who is a good communicator, and who likes to think about people - they are at the heart of what our app does.
Our tech stack is, on the front-end, AngularJS (migrating to React), Webpack + modular Javascript, Sass, Cordova, Ionic. Our back-end, Java (Play Framework), GraphQL, Couchbase, AWS / Google Cloud. Our pipeline, Gitlab, Fastlane and docker.
We're looking for someone with experience in some of our stack but more importantly, the ability to turn their hand to whichever technology we choose. Our core technical requirements are:
JS and Java
NoSQL and SQL db experience
Web development
Keen on learning/honing their craft/solving problems
Our “nice to haves/bonus point” skills are:
Cordova
Fastlane and Gitlab
AWS (lambdas etc)
React and AngularJS(old)
Play 2 framework
GraphQL
Our culture
Here are a few things that make us, us:
We work flexibly
Flexible employment options as standard. Remote, home-working, Full time, part time, job share and side hustles all actively encouraged.
We stay active
Free gym, fitness or wellness membership. If you want to do it, we'll probably support it.
We have an open team culture
We like to say what we mean, but we're kind people.
We get on with it
You won't find much process here. We decide what we want to do and we get on with it.
We’re authentic
We have big plans, but we’ve also got our feet on the ground
Our recruitment process and values
Note - this is a rolling recruitment round so there are no deadlines. We started recruiting in early August and will close recruitment when we sign contracts with a successful applicant.
We want to hire the best person for the job, which means we have to be thorough. But we also don’t want to waste your time either. So, if you’re interested in this role, please follow the following process:
Equal rights
We believe that, in 2020, it should go without saying that all applicants will be treated fairly and equally. But, we’re very happy to say it too. We’ve thought very carefully about our recruitment process and we hope to give every applicant the chance to display their best self.
