Work With Us
Video Editor (with animation abilities) for eLearning Company
We are looking for a talented Video Editor to take raw online course materials (audio recordings, slide decks, greenscreen recordings, intro animations, etc.) from our online course projects and assemble into finalized videos suitable for publication in a professional online course.
Main goal: Bring sight and sound together in order to help us create an experience that is engaging, interesting, educational, and professional, as we do with all our courses.
To see some examples of the course videos we’ve created from different projects: http://monetizemyexpertise.com/project-samples
What you'll be responsible for:
- Coordinate with other team members and the client to grasp the client’s needs and specifications, as well as all input materials you have to work with
- Create a mockup / storyboard of the concept for the video, and review with the client and stakeholders to get approval to proceed, or get revisions to implement first before proceeding
- Manipulate and edit film pieces in a way that is invisible to the audience
- Trim footage segments and put together the sequence for the course videos
- Input music, dialogues, graphics and effects
- Create rough and final cuts
- Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running
- Consult with stakeholders from production to post-production process
- Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor your projects in basecamp, to remain in communication with the client and the rest of the team with how your work is going
You've got what it takes if you are...
- Proven work experience as a video editor
- Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects and Final Cut)
- Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio
- Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation and continuity
- Familiarity with special effects, 3D and compositing
- Creative mind and storytelling skills
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques.
- Are relationship-oriented and focused on helping others.
- Have a can-do attitude. Ok, I know that is a cheesy way of saying it. But basically, if you don't know how to do something your default response should be "I don't know but I'll figure it out ASAP".
- Have fluent / perfect English. We only hire 100% fluent English speakers. It can be your second language (it is for several people on our team), but it needs to be damn good because we are a distributed team, so ultra clear communication is essential.
- Have a passion for online courses, education, learning, teaching, and helping people.
- Have a drive to learn. Due to the nature of this job it is essential that you have the perspective and drive to learn anything you need to learn.
- Have a great attitude. You must have an amazing attitude and be able to perform at your best even if you are jet-lagged, stressed, and confused about what you should be doing. *Deep breath, ok, what do I need to do next?*. If you need to be told what to do on a daily basis, this is not for you. You will need to have ownership of the things you do once you are trained on how to do them.
- Are insanely dependable. There is a lot more to this position than existing skills. Dependability and responsiveness is more important to us than anything. On a scale of 1 to 10, we’d take a dependable apprentice with a good attitude who is a 7 in terms of skills over an unresponsive apprentice with a bad attitude who is a 10 any day.
- Are very organized and never miss deadlines or important details.
- Have superlative attention to detail. Our programs rely heavily on your work. We’ll count on you to surface and resolve issues along the way, as the integrity of your final product must be unquestionable.
- Experience working in a self-autonomous way - we set outcomes for your role, and then check in with you, rather than constantly breathing down your neck
People who would probably not find this opportunity rewarding:
- People who only check their email once a week and respond to it once a month.
- People who say they will do something by tomorrow but then deliver it next week.
- People who are passive-aggressive or uncomfortable communicating directly.
- People who can only do work "when they feel inspired".
- People in it just for the money. This is for someone growth-oriented.
- Those who half-ass things. Everyone on our team works really, really hard. Yet we do it with autonomy and because we inherently enjoy doing great work.
What level video editor are you?
We think about Video Editor’s abilities in terms of 3 levels:
Beginner level editor
When you go to http://monetizemyexpertise.com/project-samples and look at the sample videos that include just voiceover on top of the slides, and that’s it. Nothing crazy or fancy. This just involves syncing audio produced by the client with the relevant slides, and doing some basic post-production steps to eliminate mistakes, level out the audio levels, and other basic steps to improve the quality of the output file.
Intermediate level editor:
Can do everything described above, as well as being able to create a video like this: https://monetizeyourexpertise.wistia.com/medias/fzy52tikwu. It includes additional types of elements (like live recordings of the client, an animated intro created in after effects / adobe premiere) and is all combined in a flawless demo video.
Advanced level editor:
Can do everything described above, as well as being able to create a video like this: https://monetizeyourexpertise.wistia.com/medias/adhethxqu7 - this was an animated prom video which we’ve only ever needed to do once or twice because of the amount of additional work it takes to create those custom infographic style animations, because it costs more and is overkill usually, but would be good to know if this is an option if it’s something you can do. Not sure which platform this was built through, but I can find out.
Compensation and Career
$300 USD - $550 USD per project (basic-level editing)
$500 USD - $850 USD per project (intermediate-level editing)

- On our website
- Through our process roadmap
- Through what our clients think of working with us
All our clients have to do is show up on a series of interview-based content development calls with us, and then later in the process they take a few hours to record the audio from an outline we provide to them, and we do the rest - before, during, in between and after. We do all the work outlining their course, incorporating any other materials they might have, creating slides, worksheets, quizzes and more, editing the videos into a finished course, setting it all up onto a learning management system (LMS) and marketing the course to generate revenue for them.
