The primary purpose of a Transport In-charge’s role will be –
- To ensure smooth, responsive, efficient, and effective management of school transportation system.
To manage the entire fleet of transport & ensure the safety & security of all stakeholders using the service.
Ensure optimum utilization of resources
Coordination with the external agency (if applicable) hired for transport support, on regular basis. - Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- List out the necessary compliances as per the State rule and Supreme Court guidelines on school transport, ensuring these are followed and sharing the status.
- Preparation of bus routes based on the transport requisition received.
- Oversee the trial run on the routes to check the actual en-route time taken (one way).
- Re-work on the route as and when there is a new transport requisition
- Maintain records (register) for each bus entailing feedback by the students, parents, teachers, didis etc.
- Ensure ID cards are issued to all staff members and students/parents
- Coordinate and ensure an undertaking from parents for using the facility has been received or not.
- Ensure implementation of School Transport SOP (as in place).
- Regularly maintain documents such as RC, Insurance, Fitness, PUC, Maintenance details, Police verification of drivers, conductors (if appointed), their medical test reports, Aadhaar copy etc.
- To ensure the required medical tests are carried out for drivers & other staff (as applicable).
Servicing & Maintenance
- To keep the Admin. Head apprised on all the activities, issues, updates, etc. on regular basis.
- Handle different aspects of bus maintenance issues and emergencies if any and respond accordingly and oversee timely maintenance checks of all the buses.
- Perform road checks during inclement weather (if needed).
- Maintaining complete records of all the maintenance work that has taken place on every bus.
- Facilitate staff meetings in and provide direction to the bus maintenance staff.
- The transport manager is in charge of setting the routes for the buses, dispatch of the buses, working out their schedule, and managing the driver.
- Inspecting the buses frequently to ensure that all the buses are in working condition and safe to use for commute.
Transport Safety & Security
- Ensure the safety & security of all stakeholders using the service.
- Facilitate safety training programs for the bus staff, etc.
- Conduct mock evacuation and emergency drills regularly and provide refresher training to all staff members (drivers, didis, conductors) etc. at least every quarter.
- Maintain safety standards in compliance with regulations for insurance requirements.
- Coordinate with the concerned representatives for the safe transportation of student with special needs (if any).
Resource Management
- Ensure optimum utilization of all resources and equipment.
- Identity the need of resources and plan to execute the purchase of spare buses, equipment, etc. in addition to the existing fleet.
- Assist the school authorities in the development of operating procedures (if needed). These may include upgrading policies, existing systems and their implementation and staffing changes at the departmental level.
Age: 25 - 40 Years
Experience: 2 - 5 Years Min 1 year of experience of working in similar capacity at a reputed school
Qualification: Graduate/Post Graduate.
