We believe that education can be a powerful force for good, and want to help students from every background to realise their full potential.

About The Role

We are looking for a highly capable and client-facing Instructor to deliver a new corporate training program focused on helping companies adopt AI tools effectively, especially OpenAI Codex and OpenAI’s Frontier AI platforms.

This role is designed for someone who is both technically hands-on and commercially mature. You should be comfortable teaching professionals how to use Codex as an AI coding agent across local development environments, IDEs, cloud workflows, GitHub-based review processes, and enterprise software development use cases. You should also be able to explain OpenAI’s frontier models and platform capabilities in practical business terms, including model selection, prompt design, workflow automation, agentic systems, safety, governance, and responsible adoption.

The ideal candidate does not need to be a deep research scientist, but must be technically credible with developers, product teams, digital transformation leaders, and senior business stakeholders. You should be able to translate complex AI capabilities into clear, practical learning experiences that help companies improve productivity, software delivery, knowledge work, and innovation workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Training Delivery: Deliver high-quality, engaging workshops and training sessions for corporate learners on OpenAI Codex, frontier models, AI-assisted software development, prompt engineering, and agentic workflows.
  • Codex Instruction: Teach learners how to use Codex across practical workflows, including reading and understanding codebases, generating and editing code, debugging, writing tests, reviewing pull requests, working through IDE or CLI-based workflows, and delegating coding tasks to cloud agents.
  • OpenAI Platform Instruction: Introduce learners to OpenAI’s frontier model ecosystem, including the Responses API, reasoning models, multimodal capabilities, tool use, function calling, file search, web search, structured outputs, and agent-based application patterns.
  • Client-Facing Facilitation: Lead training sessions with confidence for mixed audiences, including software engineers, business users, product managers, operations teams, and senior leaders.
  • Curriculum Customisation: Adapt training examples, exercises, case studies, and demos to suit each client’s industry, technical maturity, business objectives, and internal workflows.
  • Technical Demonstrations: Build and deliver live demonstrations showing how AI tools can support real work, such as code review, bug fixing, technical documentation, data analysis, workflow automation, knowledge retrieval, and AI-assisted product development.
  • Consultative Discovery: Work with Skills Union and client stakeholders to understand training needs, learner profiles, adoption barriers, and desired business outcomes before and during delivery.
  • Learner Support: Guide learners through hands-on activities, troubleshoot common setup or workflow issues, and help participants build confidence using AI tools responsibly and effectively.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Evaluate learner progress through exercises, projects, reflections, and feedback. Provide clear recommendations for continued adoption after training.
  • AI Governance & Responsible Use: Teach practical considerations around data privacy, security, intellectual property, human review, hallucination risk, model limitations, and responsible enterprise deployment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with OpenAI product updates, Codex capabilities, frontier model releases, and AI adoption practices. Continuously improve course materials and delivery based on learner feedback and platform changes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in software development, technical training, developer advocacy, AI implementation, digital transformation, or related technology consulting roles.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on familiarity with modern software development workflows, including Git/GitHub, IDEs, command-line tools, debugging, testing, code review, and basic deployment concepts.
  • AI Platform Knowledge: Practical understanding of large language models, prompt engineering, model selection, APIs, structured outputs, tool use, retrieval workflows, and agentic AI concepts.
  • OpenAI / Codex Capability: Ability to teach how Codex can support software engineering tasks such as code generation, refactoring, test creation, bug fixing, codebase exploration, pull request review, and long-running delegated tasks.
  • Programming Skills: Working knowledge of at least one major programming language such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript. Ability to read and explain code clearly to learners with different levels of technical experience.
  • Client Communication: Strong ability to communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences. Comfortable facilitating discussions with enterprise clients, department heads, and senior stakeholders.
  • Instructional Ability: Proven ability to teach, coach, mentor, or facilitate adult learners. Able to create a psychologically safe learning environment where learners feel comfortable experimenting with new tools.
  • Business Acumen: Able to connect AI capabilities to business outcomes such as productivity, faster software delivery, improved internal operations, better knowledge management, and higher-quality decision-making.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working with fast-changing AI products and evolving course content. Able to learn new tools quickly and translate updates into practical teaching points.
  • Professional Judgment: Strong understanding of when AI should be used, when human review is required, and how to communicate limitations responsibly.

Other Skills:

  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong executive presence and confidence when working with corporate clients.
  • Ability to support learners from mixed backgrounds, including business users, junior developers, senior engineers, and transformation teams.
  • Comfortable delivering in-person, hybrid, and online workshops.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on learner experience and client outcomes.
  • Ability to collaborate well within a diverse, cross-cultural team environment.
  • Comfortable using tools such as Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack/Discord, GitHub, VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, ChatGPT, OpenAI API tools, and other AI-enabled development environments.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, information systems, education, instructional design, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience in software development, AI implementation, technical consulting, or corporate training will also be considered.
  • Prior experience teaching corporate learners, running technical workshops, or supporting enterprise AI adoption is highly desirable.
  • Experience with OpenAI tools, developer platforms, AI agents, automation workflows, or enterprise AI transformation projects will be a strong advantage.

This role is crucial for helping companies move beyond AI awareness into practical adoption. The Instructor will help learners understand not only what OpenAI Codex and frontier AI platforms can do, but how to use them safely, confidently, and productively in real business and technical environments.

The Four Agreements (how we show up and hold each other accountable):

  • Be Impeccable With Your Word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
  • Don't Take Anything Personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
  • Don't Make Assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
  • Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.

Rules of Engagement

  • Be On Time - Respect other people’s time
  • Be Present - Active listening, phones off and away
  • Effective Meetings - Always have a POAD: Purpose, Outcomes, Agenda, Decisions.
  • Diversity & Inclusion - All voices represented, All voices heard
  • Take a Stand - Hold ourselves and each other accountable

Skills Union is an equal opportunities employer and actively encourages applications from all backgrounds.
