Space Machines Company (SMC) is an Australian start-up developing in-space logistics and transportation capabilities to cost-effectively insert small satellites into desired low earth orbits (LEO), geostationary earth orbits (GEO) and lunar orbits. SMC vehicles will grow in future to maintain, refuel, repair and decommission satellites and other spacecraft.

 

FUNCTION

Space Machines Company is looking for an experienced mechanical structures and mechanisms engineer to join our team in Bengaluru, India. 

 

This includes:

  • Experience in Mechanical and Mechanism part design CAD in a space environment (With preferred knowledge in  Siemens NX)
  • Mechanical part drawing preparation to industry standards
  • Working collaboratively with the SMC team to manufacture, assembly, integrate and test unit and equipment as part of the overall spacecraft development.
  • Familiarity with mechanical part manufacture, and design for manufacture principles
  • Knowledge of key spacecraft mechanisms and their behaviour in a space environment.
  • Primary and secondary, static and dynamic, structural analysis (random vibration, shock, explicit analysis, coupled loads) for spacecraft metallic and composite structures;
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), with a focus on Structural design (shock, modal, transient and random vibration)
  • potential exposure to Thermal design (Thermomechanical and dynamic)
  • Support to planning, executing and reporting of tests, qualification, verification, calibration activities and operation of space hardware;
  • Translating technical requirements into (multiple) part level requirements through flow down for spacecraft projects. 
  • The ability to engage with vendors and manufactures to source cost effective parts achieve quality outcomes

 

PROFILE

 

We expect you to have a degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronic Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience in the aerospace industry.  Familiarity with electronics is highly desirable.  We expect you to be a pro-active, creative, enthusiastic and a result-oriented engineer, with a broad view on spacecraft design.  Fluency in English is also required.
