ROLE

Due to increased customer growth and demand, Space Machines Company is looking for a high performing Lead Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our expanding team. In this position you will play a crucial role in the design, development, procurement, implementation and testing of the electrical power systems for our next fleet of satellites. You will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and performance of our satellite power systems. This is a leadership position that requires a high level of expertise in power electronics and experience in the aerospace industry.
Some interstate and international travel may be required for the role.
PROFILE
We are looking for a self-starter that can:
- Lead the design and development of satellite power bus systems, ensuring compliance with all technical and regulatory requirements.
- Design, simulate, and test power electronic circuits including DC/DC converters, power distribution units, and battery management systems.
- Develop and implement control algorithms for power electronics systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering to integrate power electronics into the overall satellite system.
- Perform detailed analysis and simulations to validate design concepts and predict performance.
- Oversee the development and testing of prototypes and production units, ensuring all designs meet the required specifications and standards.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in power electronics and aerospace technology, and apply this knowledge to improve existing systems and develop new solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
You will be a good fit for this role if you have:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power electronics design and development, with a focus on aerospace or satellite systems.
- Proven experience with the design and development of satellite power bus systems.
- Strong knowledge of power electronic devices, circuit design, and simulation tools.
- Experience with control algorithms and digital control of power electronic systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for satellite systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and innovatively.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex technical information to a range of audiences.
- Experience with radiation-hardened power electronics and designing for harsh space environments.
- Knowledge of satellite system architecture and integration.
- Experience with project management and leading engineering projects from concept to production.
