ROLE
🚀 Ignite innovation beyond Earth as Spacecraft Communications Engineer! 🚀
Due to increased customer growth and demand, Space Machines Company is seeking a highly skilled Principal Spacecraft Communications Engineer to join our dynamic team. You will be developing and implementing RF communication strategies for spacecraft, ensuring reliable and efficient communication between space vehicles and ground systems. This role requires a deep understanding of space communications systems including direct links, satellite relay systems and inter-satellite comms, proficiency in RF technologies, and strong analytical abilities to troubleshoot and optimize communication links. Additionally, you will be responsible for the rigorous testing and verification of communications systems to ensure their functionality and reliability in the space environment.
Some interstate and international travel may be required for the role.
PROFILE
We are looking for a self-starter that can:
- Conduct detailed analysis of communication requirements and develop strategies to ensure robust and reliable data transmission in the space environment.
- Design, develop, and implement RF communication systems for spacecraft, including link budget analysis, modulation schemes, and frequency planning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate communication systems into spacecraft and ensure compliance with mission requirements.
- Perform system-level testing and validation of communication systems, including end-to-end testing from ground stations to spacecraft.
- Develop and execute test plans for RF communication systems, ensuring thorough verification of performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, testing, and troubleshooting activities to identify and resolve issues throughout the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to the improvement of design methodologies, tools, and processes for comms system development.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in RF technology and space communications to incorporate innovative solutions into system designs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
You will be a good fit for this role if you have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in RF communications, with a focus on space communications
- Strong understanding of RF principles including encoding, modulation, signal propagation and antenna design
- Intuitive feel for the interplay between mission operational design, payload ops, AOCS envelopes and communications
- Proficiency in using RF simulation and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, CST, Ansys HFSS).
- Familiarity with international space communication standards and protocols (e.g., CCSDS, DVB-S2).
- Proven experience in the testing and verification of RF communication systems, including the development and execution of comprehensive test plans.
- Knowledge of space systems engineering principles and constraints is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
