A well-funded fintech start-up is looking to recruit an ambitious Compliance and Paralegal Officer to join a dynamic team that is embarking on a ground-breaking platform in a hitherto underserved segment of the lending market.

 

Job Summary

 

As a Fintech Compliance and Paralegal Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring regulatory compliance and legal adherence within a fintech company. You will be responsible for supporting compliance initiatives, conducting legal research, and assisting in contract management. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to navigate regulatory complexities, mitigate legal risks, and uphold ethical standards while promoting the company's growth objectives.

We operate hybrid working and our office is in Central London.

 

Responsibilities

 

Regulatory Compliance

 

  • Monitor regulatory developments and updates related to the fintech industry, including banking regulations, data privacy laws, and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing compliance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Assist in attaining FCA authorisation for financial services activities where necessary.
  • Conduct compliance reviews, audits, and risk assessments to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective measures.

 

Legal Research and Analysis

 

  • Conduct legal research on relevant statutes, regulations, and case law to support compliance initiatives and business operations.
  • Prepare summaries, memos, and reports on legal issues impacting the fintech industry, including regulatory changes and enforcement actions.
  • Assist in drafting legal documents, contracts, and agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

 

Contract Management

  • Assist in the review, negotiation, and management of contracts with clients, vendors, and partners, ensuring terms are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Drafting customer terms and conditions.
  • Maintain contract databases and tracking systems to monitor contract status, key dates, and obligations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve contract-related issues and disputes in a timely and efficient manner.

 

Compliance Training and Awareness

 

  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs to educate employees on regulatory requirements, company policies, and ethical standards.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and integrity by providing guidance and support to employees on compliance-related matters.

 

Risk Management and Due Diligence

 

  • Conduct due diligence reviews on third-party vendors, partners, and clients to assess compliance risks and ensure alignment with the company's standards and values.
  • Assist in identifying and mitigating legal and compliance risks associated with business activities, products, and services.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

 

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, compliance, risk management, and business teams, to address legal and regulatory issues and support business initiatives.
  • Drawing-up and maintaining internal policy and procedure documents.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on compliance and legal matters, providing guidance and support to colleagues across the organization.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Essential: Bachelor's degree in law, business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • Essential: Prior experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory roles within the fintech, financial services, or technology industry.
  • Desirable: Paralegal certification or equivalent experience is preferred.

 

Experience and Attributes

 

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and legal frameworks applicable to fintech operations, including financial regulations, data protection laws, and consumer protection statutes.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and databases, with the ability to analyse complex legal issues and communicate findings effectively.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build positive relationships.
  • Ethical and principled approach to work, with a commitment to upholding compliance standards and promoting a culture of transparency and integrity within the organisation.
