Come work at Techie Youth (https://www.TechieYouth.org), a non-profit charity of NYC that helps foster-kids (children who have been removed from abusive/neglectful parents/homes) who are approaching the age-of-emancipation. We train them in computer-technology and then help them begin a career in the IT-sector. Statistically, without Techie Youth, most of these kids will become homeless or incarcerated - in NYC 80% of homeless people were previously in foster-care. We operate in collaboration with the City of NY and several tech-companies including Microsoft.
Techie Youth seeks an experienced teacher to help teach a large group of students for the 6-week summer semester starting July 8, 2019. The students are between ages 16 and 24, and are in foster care or have some other extreme life-situation such as living in a homeless shelter, being pregnant/parenting or are juvenile justice involved. This role requires a commitment to teach for our complete 6-week-semester Mon-Fri. Hours are part-time for 5-hours per day starting at either 8am or 1pm.
Requirements:
- must be able to build a solid rapport with youth from challenging backgrounds
- must have sufficient computer-technology competency to be able to teach a course similar to A+ certification
- we will run a background check - you must not have anything in your background that prevents you from teaching youth
To apply, please send:
- your availability: how soon you can begin and what daily hours M-F are you available to work
- the minimum hourly pay-rate that would make you happy and excited to come teach every day
- your LinkedIn and/or link to your resume

The Techie Youth classroom is conveniently located in Long Island City a block from Queens Blvd, right near the Queensboro Plaza & Queens Plaza subway stations, Queensboro Bridge and the last exit of the LIE. Techie Youth will provide the curriculum. Both tech experience and teaching experience with older adolescents is a must. Experience teaching "at risk" students or similar demographics is a big plus. A background check is required.
This is an opportunity to give to a worthwhile program targeting at risk young adults who are "aging out" of the foster care system. The Techie Youth initiative is a unique groundbreaking approach that uses technology-education to fix a major worldwide problem (homelessness) - we have been featured on Fox, NY1 News, ABC, WPIX, Univision, etc. We want you to join us, apply now!
