WHAT YOU’LL DO, AND WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Mass Participation events are returning after a challenging year across the sector, and we are thrilled to be looking for a third-party event manager to deliver exceptional experiences for our supporters and drive strategic growth.
As an experienced project manager, you’ll maximise investment in your events through collaborative marketing campaigns, insight driven stewardship journeys and engaging event day activations. You’ll need to be confident managing your budget and meeting key metrics to regularly report to the Head of Mass Participation.
You will have strong relationship management skills, able to work effectively with internal teams to generate the best success for our events. You’ll also establish and maintain key relationships with event delivery partners, such as the London Marathon, as well as suppliers and volunteers. Using your knowledge of third-party fundraising events, you’ll seek growth opportunities and Charity of the Year partnerships to cement Teenage Cancer Trust as a go-to for challenges in the sector.
We’re looking for someone to join our ambitious fundraising team and continue to motivate and inspire fundraisers to take on a challenge with us to help us reach every young person with cancer.

Job Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This role will manage, grow and develop the charity’s investment in a portfolio of Mass Participation events. You will be an expert on Mass Participation events, using your specialist knowledge of external trends, supporter insight and data to respond to opportunities, identify solutions, generate ideas and test new events and activities. You will develop a pipeline of potential event partnership opportunities, securing partnerships with events that deliver great value. You will project manage all aspects of the events in your care, including driving participant numbers and value through effective marketing and stewardship plans, managing relationships with event suppliers co-ordinating event day logistics and the evaluation of all activity. You will build strong relationships with the Supporter Care, Database, Volunteering and Marketing teams to deliver these events and will be responsible for at least £1m of gross income annually
ROLE FOCUS
Project Management
- Lead on the development and growth of your events and work collaboratively with other Project Managers and the Head of Mass Participation to support the overall growth and development of the full portfolio.
- Manage the relationship with event organisers and various suppliers, negotiating contracts and securing the best value for the charity.
- Use insight and analysis to develop budgets and plans, monitor and report on performance vs budgets, risks and opportunities, providing clear rationale and contingency plans where needed.
- To fully manage all event day activations, seeking new opportunities to improve supporter experience and taking responsibility for all health and safety and risk assessment planning.
- Proactively seek out development opportunities, monitoring the market and trends, and use your experience, insight and clear evidence to put forward recommendations to the Head of Mass Participation to grow and develop the portfolio.
- Use a range of project management techniques to facilitate the control and delivery of the portfolio.
- Use expert analysis skills to monitor review and evaluate all aspects of the charity’s investment in the your events, to drive a better ROI and supporter experience.
- To ensure that all fundraising activities meet with the Code of Practice, Charity Commission requirements, The Charities Act, GDPR, insurance requirements and all other relevant statutes.
- To carry out extensive analysis for each event to review learnings, and put in place measures to adapt our approach continuously for improved success year-on-year
Marketing and Communications
- Responsible for developing and driving multi-channel marketing and stewardship plans, co-ordinating with Digital, Marketing, Brand & Content, Supporter Care and Volunteering to deliver an outstanding supporter experience and hit recruitment targets.
- Set, track and report on ROI and projected lifetime value of all marketing activity in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Team and act on the results, adjusting plans as needed.
Relationship Development
- Lead cross -team working groups where appropriate to deliver projects
- Develop excellent working relationships with Supporter Care, Database, Corporate, Community, Individual Giving, Innovation & NPD, Volunteering, Marketing and Communications Teams to ensure cross selling where appropriate and in line with GDPR.
- Liaise and negotiate with event partners and suppliers, negotiating contracts and ensuring all are fulfilling their contractual obligations. Escalate issues to the Head of Mass Participation when required.
- Create stewardship plans using insight from previous events, working closely with other teams to ensure information is disseminated via the relevant channels.
- Responsible for delivery of plans to maximise remittance rates and increase averages raised.
- Responsible for stewarding high value supporters and driving value through the development of activation activities.
- Brief other teams on requirements for delivery of events/marketing/stewardship.
Budgeting
- Responsible for the delivery of income and supporting delivery of the wider Mass Participation programme
- Responsible for developing long term and lifetime value projections for third party event participants.
- Responsible for making budget recommendations to the Head of Mass Participation.
- Responsible for delivering robust monthly reports and quarterly forecasts.
- Develop business cases for the investment for third party Mass Participation when required.
OTHER DUTIES
- Feed experiences and insights into the Supporter Care Manager to help shape our supporter experience and development activities.
- Supporting the Head of Mass Participation with the delivery of strategic project work
- Undertake any other duties that are commensurate with the post as requested by your manager.
- Providing cover for other project managers
- Carry out the duties of post in accordance with Teenage Cancer Trust policies and procedures.
- Willingness to travel across the UK and available to work some evenings and weekends attending events.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Experience
- Proven experience of managing third party event portfolios or supporter led activity ideally in a charity environment
- Proven experience managing high value third party events such as London Marathon and Great North Run
- Significant project management experience, ideally in an agile environment.
- Proven track record of growing participant numbers and income, and exceeding financial targets
- Managing volunteers to deliver successful mass participation activity
- Driving and delivering successful marketing plans
- Working across several teams to develop and execute plans
- Experience of developing effective and engaging supporter stewardship journeys
- Writing compelling marketing and stewardship copy
- Proven ability to work with data, insight and market trends to identify opportunities and make recommendations.
- Experience of budgeting and the scenario planning of income and expenditure for projects and delivering against target.
- Use of a relationship based database to support, inform and report on fundraising activity.
- Proven ability to work to very tight deadlines in a dynamic and flexible environment
Knowledge and know how
- Computer literate: MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
