Our Austin, Texas-based client, has retained our firm to assist in finding an experienced entrepreneurial Chief Technology Officer, an innovative technology leader who will be a key addition to their executive team. Our client is a science and technology development and commercialization company that launches, manages, and builds scalable companies based on innovative technology. 

 

We are The Adkins Group, Inc. (www.theadkinsgroup.com), a retained executive search and recruitment services firm based in Austin, Texas, focused primarily on the technology sector. We are working directly with the leadership team on this effort.

 

This is a hands-on, get-things-done, corporate CTO role. The company builds and manages subsidiaries for each of its various market opportunities until they become self-sufficient and stand-alone. You will be in charge of all technical and manufacturing considerations for the young subsidiaries. Each of the subsidiaries are stand-alone entities, and once mature enough, they will be spun-off from the parent company as stand-alone entities with their own management. 

 

--In this role, you will play a key role in identifying and commercializing state-of-the-art, leading-edge technologies, managing all technical tasks related to the adaption of the mass spectrometry technology to identified and new applications. You will have the opportunity to utilize your experience and abilities to assess the company's technology--identifying opportunities where it could be applied as a benefit for customers that are currently using slow, labor and hardware intensive methods.  

 

In this role, you will:

--You will be responsible for the annual R&D and manufacturing budget and quarterly reporting of any variances to the budget during the year. 

--You will also be responsible for all SOWs with and provide oversight of contractors and contract manufacturers. 

--You will be responsible for staffing, training, and leading a new technical team in Austin, TX.

--Manage the engineering tasks of changing the mass spectrometer instrumentation to be more manufacturable.  

--Manage the engineering tasks to make the mass spectrometer instrumentation more rugged and dependable.

--Manage the engineering tasks to adapt the mass spectrometer instrumentation to new applications.

--Manage the contract manufacturing agreements.

--Manage the contracts for technology licensing, partnership agreements, etc.

--Manage the hiring of software engineers, mechanical engineers and chemists as needed.

--Manage grant proposals.

--You have extensive experience in mass spectrometry instrumentation design and design for manufacturing (DFM).

--You have the experience/track-record and ability to look at the company's technology and easily see where it could be applied as a benefit for customers that are already known to be currently using slow, labor, and hardware intensive methods.  

--You are up for the exciting technology development challenge is to adapt the ATI technology to the factory floor, interface with the PLC and create chemically driven AI/ML solutions that can take control of the processing equipment and deliver the highest yield, highest quality, and consistent end product possible.  

--You are excited by the fact that each application will have its unique challenges including vacuum sampling of solid, liquid, and gas samples within varied high and low-temperature environments, both indoors and outdoors.

--This job is to be the Chief Technical Officer of an instrument that detects, and measures ions created in-situ. You have extensive experience with ions since it is essential for you to be able to invent new ways to capture, create, introduce, trap, eject, and detect ions.

--You have an engineering degree and a background in mass spectrometry technology with related industry experience. 

--It would be ideal if you have an intimate knowledge of Linear Ion Trap Mass Spectrometry using internal chemical ionization and external ionization technologies.  

--It would also be ideal if you were an expert in external ionization technologies and advanced rapid-chromatography techniques. 

--Experience with artificial intelligence, in-situ chemical analysis, and/or medical device commercialization (including FDA) is also a plus.

--You have considerable experience with managing contract manufacturers.

--You have been responsible for hiring a technical team.

--You have directly responsible for managing a R&D and manufacturing budgets and profitability.
