Working on their behalf, we have been retained to assist in bringing on a seasoned, talented Director of Materials to join this world-class organization in a strategic, key role for the company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with the role based in the Portland, Oregon area.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Materials to lead our client's New Product Introduction (NPI) materials organization. This is a very visible position and a newly created role as a result of growth in the business. There is a need to strengthen the leadership and strategic materials function further with the addition of an experienced Director. We are working directly with leadership on this effort.
-In this role, your primary responsibility is to manage a team of materials program and project managers through all stages of product development from R&D to Volume manufacturing to ensure PDR deliverables are completed with high quality and within programs timeline.
-You will fundamentally enable the organization to compete by leading strategic material cost reduction efforts.
-You will report directly to the Head of Operations. Initially, you will have 2 managers and about 30 total reports. The employees in the org are Material program managers and tactical material project managers.
-You will assess the current org design and talent---determining the right skills/structure for the next 2-5 years.
-You will engage with product design on high-risk programs to determine cost reduction roadmaps and learn the company's current supply chain to understand who does what and what gaps exist (eliminate spending too much time chasing parts and create more time to design a cost-effective material strategy and improvements)
-You will design R&Rs and scope to focus on cost from the first engagement with design team.
-Develop the relationships with Supply Chain and Product Group to ensure the company has the appropriate processes to facilitate faster to-market designs and defense of current market share.

-Have extensive program management experience (a must).
-Are comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty and possesses the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
-Have the ability to effectively initiate and execute change with upstream and downstream partners.
-Have basic knowledge of manufacturing methods and commodities as related to cost structure.
-Have supply chain knowledge, especially for critical commodities as related to sourcing decisions and cost strategies.
-Have a technical background, preferably in large electromechanical systems.
-Have continuous improvement/Lean/Lean Six Sigma experience (preferred).
-Have a demonstrated track record of working a in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team where success depends on the contributions of everyone.
-Have a high degree of comfort performing in a fast paced, but highly rewarding and stimulating environment.
