We are The Adkins Group, Inc. (www.theadkinsgroup.com), a retained executive search and recruitment services firm based in Austin, Texas. Our client, one of the largest electricity producers in the U.S., has retained our firm to assist in bringing on a seasoned, talented Managing Director to join this world-class organization in a strategic, key role for the company. 

 

We are searching for a Managing Director, Technology Solutions Delivery---a seasoned technical team leader, a people manager with significant IT experience in one of the following industries: utilities/power transmission, telecom (internet, mobile network), internet providers, datacenter/cloud infrastructure, radio tower, or other industries that offer a national networked distributed service.  

 

This is a pivotal time in the transformation of the electric utility business. The next few years will be a fast, seismic shift in the portfolio of generating assets (shift from carbon/fossil fuel-based generation to net zero carbon/renewable operations.)  This will happen while new technologies shift how utilities and customers interact with Distributed Energy Resources.

 

This role will be at the heart of those changes. You will be a voice at the table in ensuring that our client's IT systems are key enablers of the business transformation – transformed generation, transmission, and distribution while also transforming how the Grid/ED/Generation team “gets work done.” This high-impact, high-profile role is the key partner role to the “core” business. There is no other role closer to the business strategy of the company.

 

• You will be part of the team that consists of roughly 1500 people + contractors supporting several functions.

  • Infrastructure Engineering, Operations, Support
  • Field Telecom Solutions (fiber, radio towers, et.)
  • Enterprise Innovation & Technology (DERMS strategy, blue/green hydrogen tests, etc.)

 

In this role, you will:

 

Lead and manage a team of Directors and staff to plan, deliver and manage technology solutions in support of of our client's business objectives. 

  • Partner with the business unit leaders and executives as well as technology leadership to set strategy, drive alignment, and ensure outcome based decisions.
  • Build and maintain technology roadmap for business and technology initiatives impacting the portfolio.
  • Facilitate the Business Unit – Information Technology Governance process and act as a key point of contact for the business units.
  • Ensure core project management disciplines are leveraged to deliver projects and meet objectives.
  • Support ITIL processes (Incident / Problem Management).
  • Serve as sponsor / single point of contact with key software and solution integrators within the portfolio.
  • Provide leadership in support of Compliance and Security Remediations.
  • Consult & facilitate Innovation opportunities with the business unit.

 

· If the following describes you, we would love to talk with you about the role:

 

-You are a seasoned technical change-agent, team leader, and people manager with significant IT experience in one of the following industries: utilities, telecom (internet, mobile network), internet providers, datacenter/cloud infrastructure, radio tower, or other industries that offer a national networked distributed service.  

 

-You have at least 10 Years of IT-related end-to-end delivery, business solutions portfolio management, applications development and support experience, including at least 8 years of experience managing large teams and programs. 

 

-Extensive technology planning and deployment experience.  

 

-You have strong focus on the business and portfolio management experience, with a track record of delivering business value and meeting commitments on programs/projects.

 

-Large scale applications/product delivery experience.   

 

-You are an exceptional communicator, with extensive collaboration and relationship building skills; you are a strong business partner that collaborates to deliver value.

 

-You exhibit executive presence that builds a foundation of trust, accountability, and confidence in the team and ability to deliver.

 

-You have a track record of innovating that will help our client to improve their overall operations and generation and management goals.

 

-People leadership skills.  You are a strong people leader first and foremost, with the ability to effectively select, motivate, and develop a team, AND have the ability to work as part of a peer leadership team.  Your strong talent leader experience focused on hiring, coaching/developing and performance management will be leaned on heavily.

 

-You have significant experience leading through change. Solid track record of transformative leadership experience.

 

-You have a solid track record as a member of the business team with strong peer relationships while solving problems vs waiting to be asked what to do.   

 

-Strong relationship management and support experience including 8 years' experience in supervision/management of large teams and programs.

 

-Collaboration & relationship management; building credibility & trust.

 

-You have proven critical thinking skills.

 

-Strong track record of delivering high reward/high risk programs.
