Our Fortune 500 client is a trusted industry-leading global supplier of large innovative electromechanical equipment and services. On their behalf, our firm has been retained to find an experienced Senior Director of Quality (Corporate Development and Standards) to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Portland, Oregon.
This is a very visible leadership position within the company. It influences many organizations and has the potential to have great effect on the company from the customers to the operating efficiency and design of their products. It is a position unlike any other in the company with span and control over a very wide band of groups within the company, with the opportunity to deal with customers directly as well.

This is a critical position within our client's Global Quality organization – Great opportunity for you to drive improvement towards operational excellence by leveraging Lean principles in the company’s business processes. You will be a thought leader and partner with functional management to assess opportunities, and together drive the company to the next level of Lean improvement. This position relates to all of the core products for the company---large electromechanical systems, software and services.
Your work will be directly engaged in assuring that the company's data on failures and quality escapes is captured, interpreted and analyzed thoroughly. This information and analysis should drive the functional groups in the company to improve through prevention and root cause analysis and response and recovery.
Your responsibilities:
--You will be the reference point and standard bearer for the company on:
· Quality skills and specialty. Learning and development in quality.
· Skills use and conventions – develop common practices and drive accountability for use.
· Benchmarking of best in world techniques and culture sustenance
· Active participation in relevant Quality associations.
· Partner as needed with PGs on special programs.
--Corporate programs for skill development, certification, team dynamics.
--Develop Quality scorecards for Design/Engineering.
· Collaborate with PGs, Engineering Leadership Team and others for completeness implementation considering:
· Historical issues, current specifications and preferences, future needs and features, i4.0 requirements
--Drive ownership of scorecards with product groups, operations and supply chain/quality
--Quality reporting for company
· Drive an objective, comprehensive assessment of the company’s quality processes
· Drive Quality messaging in the company communication channels. Collaborate on messaging with product groups and supply chain
--Customer quality audit ownership.
--Drive resource areas for the company to provide tools for quality and reliability assessments (Data plotting and interpretation, modeling and prediction, key training materials and references)
If the following describes you, we would love to talk with you about the role:
-You have a substantial background in quality management systems, culture building, and organizational change.
-You are an expert in Lean/Six Sigma principles and have the ability to apply them to a variety of business and technical applications. Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other Quality and Reliability certification is important (other ASQ certifications).
-You have strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills plus a demonstrated track record of improvement in a manufacturing enterprise at a senior manager or director-level.
-You have experience improving quality operations within an organization that manufacturers large complex electromechanical systems.
-You have the ability to contribute on day one and be adaptable to the environment with almost every organization in the company. This is a broad exposure job!
-You have personal conviction and confidence, with a spark and a different perspective.
-You think differently and encourage variety of input and involvement.
-You have a track record of remaining very positive and objective and calming in difficult situations.
-You can express your philosophy of Quality culture, the foundational elements, the essentials of sustenance of the culture. You can talk about the benefits and problems encountered at various phases of maturity.
-You can provide examples of quality culture change. With engineering (design), pilot manufacturing, suppliers and internal supplier management orgs, manufacturing and end customers.
-You have extensive experience with implementing KPI/metrics, developing them collaboratively but at the same time holding the various organizations accountable to performance.
-You have faced significant challenges and experiences in quality program installation and assimilation.
-B.S. degree in Engineering, or a related technical field. Master’s degree in engineering, business or a related technical field preferred.
