Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Credentials: Holds or looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) Reporting To: Shop Foreman / Production Manager
We are looking for a precision-oriented Cabinetmaker to join our architectural woodworking and custom cabinetry team. This role is designed for a craftsperson who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
In this position, you will transition from basic assembly to high-end fabrication, working with a variety of woods, veneers, and laminates. Whether you are already a certified Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in your final year, you will be expected to uphold the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), ensuring that every joint, finish, and installation meets the national benchmark for quality.
Following the national standards for the Cabinetmaker trade, your primary duties include:
Production Planning: Interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Perform complex shop math to create "cut lists" and determine the most efficient use of materials.
Machining & Fabrication: Safely operate and maintain stationary power tools, including table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, and CNC routers.
Joinery Mastery: Execute advanced joinery techniques (dovetails, mortise and tenon, biscuiting, and mitering) to construct high-quality cabinet carcasses, doors, and drawers.
Veneering & Laminating: Apply wood veneers, high-pressure laminates (HPL), and edge-banding using both manual techniques and specialized machinery.
Hardware & Assembly: Install specialized hardware, including concealed hinges, drawer slides, and decorative pulls, ensuring smooth operation and precise alignment.
Final Finishing: Perform surface preparation (sanding, scraping) and assist in the application of stains, sealers, and topcoats to achieve specified finishes.
On-Site Installation: Assist in the professional installation of finished cabinetry, ensuring units are level, plumb, and securely fastened to structural elements.
Mentorship: If certified, provide technical guidance to apprentices. If finishing requirements, ensure all competencies in the Apprentice Logbook are documented and signed off by a Journeyperson.
Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of wood characteristics (expansion/contraction), adhesives, and modern hardware systems.
Mathematical Competency: Precision in imperial and metric measurements and the ability to calculate angles and complex dimensions.
Physical Capability: Ability to stand for long periods and safely lift/maneuver large sheets of plywood or heavy hardwood assemblies.
Attention to Detail: A "perfectionist" mindset where tolerances are measured in fractions of a millimeter.
The Cabinetmaker Red Seal represents the peak of woodworking professionalism in Canada. We support your growth by providing:
The Final Mile: For those finishing their RSE, we offer exposure to the full scope of the trade—from traditional hand-tool work to modern CNC operation—ensuring you are ready for the Interprovincial Exam.
Premium Compensation: Wages that reflect your technical expertise and the high-value nature of custom architectural woodwork.
Career Mobility: Achievement of a credential that is recognized and respected in custom shops and industrial plants across Canada.
