We are seeking a detail-oriented Drywall Finisher and Plasterer to join our interior systems team. This position is designed for a skilled professional who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
In this trade, your work is the final canvas before paint and decoration; it requires a steady hand and an eye for architectural perfection. Whether you are a certified Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in the home stretch of your training, you will be expected to uphold the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), ensuring seamless transitions and high-performance wall systems on residential and commercial projects.
Following the national standards for the Drywall Finisher and Plasterer trade, your primary duties include:
Surface Preparation: Inspect installed gypsum wallboard for defects. Pre-fill joints and install corner beads, trim, and decorative moldings to ensure structural crispness.
Taping & Finishing: Apply multiple coats of compound to joints, fasteners, and corners. Master the use of both hand tools (hawks, trowels, knives) and mechanical tools (bazookas, boxes, and auto-tapers).
Sanding & Leveling: Perform dust-controlled sanding to achieve specific "Level of Finish" requirements (Level 1 through Level 5), ensuring surfaces are perfectly smooth under critical lighting.
Plastering & Ornamentation: Apply, maintain, and restore plaster coats on interior and exterior surfaces. Execute decorative plaster work, including textures and cornices.
Firestopping & Soundproofing: Apply fire-rated tapes and sealants to maintain the integrity of fire separations and acoustic barriers in compliance with the National Building Code.
EIFS & Specialized Finishes: (Where applicable) Apply Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) and specialized architectural coatings.
Mentorship: If certified, provide technical instruction to junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, ensure all Major Work Activities (MWAs)—including specialized textures and curved surfaces—are documented and signed off in your Apprentice Logbook.
Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of compound drying times, bead types, and the chemistry of various plasters and setting-type muds.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work on stilts or scaffolding for extended periods. Capability to perform repetitive overhead motions and lift heavy pails of compound (up to 20kg).
Attention to Detail: An uncompromising commitment to producing "paint-ready" surfaces that are free of tool marks and shadows.
Safety & Cleanliness: Strict adherence to respiratory safety protocols and silica dust control measures.
The Red Seal is Canada's mark of a master finisher. We support your professional growth by providing:
The Path to Completion: For those finishing their RSE, we offer exposure to high-end commercial projects and Level 5 finishing requirements to ensure you are fully prepared for the Interprovincial Exam.
Competitive Compensation: Wages that recognize your specialized skill and the physical demands of the trade.
National Mobility: An RSE credential that is recognized in every province and territory, allowing you to work on major infrastructure and luxury developments across Canada.
