Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Credentials: Holds or looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) Reporting To: Service Manager / Shop Foreman

The Opportunity

We are seeking a powerhouse Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join our service team. This role is designed for a high-level technician who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).

In this position, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of massive machinery used in construction, mining, and forestry. Whether you are an experienced Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in your final year, you will be expected to perform at the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS) level, ensuring the reliability and safety of the heavy equipment that builds Canada's infrastructure.

Core Responsibilities

In accordance with the national standards for the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician trade, your primary duties include:

Advanced Diagnostics: Troubleshoot complex failures in engine management systems, high-pressure hydraulics, and electronic control modules (ECMs) using advanced diagnostic software and specialized testing tools.

Engine & Power Train Overhaul: Perform complete teardowns and rebuilds of large-scale diesel engines, transmissions, torque converters, and final drives.

Hydraulic & Hydrostatic Systems: Diagnose and repair pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders, ensuring high-pressure systems operate within strict manufacturer tolerances.

Chassis & Structural Repair: Service and repair undercarriages, tracks, suspension systems, and braking systems (including air and hydraulic disc/drum).

Electrical & Electronic Systems: Repair and calibrate starting/charging systems and sophisticated onboard computer systems, including GPS and telematics.

Structural Welding: Perform basic welding and torch-cutting for component repair and reinforcement in compliance with safety standards.

Mentorship: If certified, supervise and sign off on the hours and competencies of junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, work with our Journeypersons to complete Major Work Activities (MWAs) such as steering and crawler systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).

Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of diesel theory, fluid power, and powertrain mechanics. Ability to read complex hydraulic and electrical schematics.

Physical Stamina: Ability to work in demanding environments (shop and field), handle heavy components, and work in varied weather conditions.

Safety Mindset: Strict adherence to Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), confined space protocols, and overhead crane safety.

Driver’s License: Valid Class 5 license (Class 1 or 3 with air brake endorsement is a significant asset for field service).

The Red Seal Standard

The Red Seal is Canada's gold standard for heavy equipment expertise. We support your professional standing by providing:

The Final Mile: For those finishing their RSE, we offer exposure to a wide fleet of equipment (excavators, dozers, haul trucks, etc.) to ensure you are fully prepared for the Interprovincial Exam.

Competitive Compensation: Top-tier wages that reflect the complexity and high responsibility of the heavy-duty trade.

National Mobility: An RSE credential that is recognized in every province and territory, giving you the ability to work in any industrial sector across Canada.
