We are seeking a highly analytical and mechanically gifted Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) to join our maintenance team. This role is specifically designed for a professional who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
Millwrights are the "surgeons" of the industrial world. Whether you are a seasoned Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in your final year, you will be expected to work to the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS). You will ensure the precision installation, maintenance, and repair of the complex machinery that keeps our production lines moving.
In accordance with the national standards for the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade, your primary duties include:
Installation & Alignment: Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. Install, align, and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment (pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces, and generators) using hoists, jacks, and laser alignment tools.
Predictive & Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and vibration analysis. Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts to ensure peak performance and minimize downtime.
Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose malfunctions using technical manuals and specialized testing equipment. Inspect and examine machinery to detect and investigate irregularities and failures.
Component Repair: Repair or replace defective parts. Fabricate new components using machine shop tools such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
Fluid Power Systems: Maintain and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems, including pumps, valves, and cylinders.
Welding & Fabrication: Perform structural welding and torch-cutting for equipment repairs and the construction of frames or guards.
Rigging & Hoisting: Plan and execute complex rigging and hoisting operations for the safe movement of heavy equipment in confined industrial spaces.
Mentorship: If certified, provide technical instruction and sign off on the hours of junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, work with our Journeypersons to master Major Work Activities (MWAs) such as dynamic balancing and PLC-controlled systems.
Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
Technical Proficiency: Expert understanding of mechanical power transmission (gears, belts, bearings), fluid power theory, and precision measurement.
Manual Dexterity: High-level skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work in demanding industrial environments, handle heavy components, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
Problem-Solving: Exceptional ability to work under pressure to resolve mechanical failures during high-stakes production periods.
