About Pave Bank:
Pave Bank is the world’s first programmable business bank. Built by the founders behind Monzo and BigPay, we are redefining global business banking by integrating programmable financial infrastructure with world-class client experiences.
About The Role:
We’re looking for an early-career Software Engineer to join our team and play a key role in integrations — helping customers and partners integrate seamlessly with our platform. You’ll work directly with clients and internal teams to ensure smooth onboarding, reliable API usage, and excellent developer experiences. Over time, you’ll have the opportunity to grow in one of two directions:
- Developer Relations / Forward-Deployed Engineer: Partner closely with customers to own integrations end-to-end and represent the developer community.
- Backend Engineering: Build the APIs and services that power our programmable banking platform.
This is an ideal role for someone who’s early in their career, curious about how systems and businesses connect, and eager to grow into a high-impact technical contributor.
In Your First 3 Months
- Work directly with customers and partners to diagnose integration issues, clarify API behaviour, and gather feedback to inform product design
- Design and extend APIs that make customer integrations reliable, consistent, and easy to use
- Collaborate with senior engineers to define and improve developer-facing contracts (authentication, webhooks, API docs, SDKs)
- Work with internal teams and customers to understand real-world integration challenges and translate them into product improvements
As You Grow:
- Take ownership of specific API domains or subsystems, designing them end-to-end from concept to deployment
- Establish patterns and standards for API design, versioning, and error handling across the platform
- Lead cross-functional projects that involve engineering, product, and operations to streamline how customers integrate with us
- Contribute to internal tooling, SDKs, and documentation that improve developer experience
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and RFCs, helping shape our API and platform architecture
- Choose a growth path based on your interests: Developer-facing path: specialize in complex client integrations and developer success or Backend engineering path: focus on scalable systems, domain modeling, and platform reliability
What we're looking for:
- 0–2 years of experience in software development
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and common tools (Postman, cURL)
- Proficiency in at least one language (Go and TypeScript preferred but not essential)
- Curiosity about how systems fit together and how customers use them
- Growth mindset, eager to learn, iterate, and take on more responsibility
We are prioritising candidates with excellent communication skills who can build rapport with both customers and internal teams. To succeed in this role, you'll need to understand our systems deeply enough to explain them clearly to customers and internal teams. We are not indexing on the candidate's ability to build complex systems just yet; this will come with time and mentorship.
If you enjoy questions like these, You'll love this role:
- What makes Stripe’s developer experience so good and how could we replicate it?
- What separates a good API from a bad one?
- Why is this integration failing in production when it worked in staging?
- How can we design APIs that are simple, predictable, and hard to misuse?
- How can I write code or documentation that helps hundreds of other engineers succeed?
Why join Pave?
- We recently raised $39 million in our Series A (led by Accel), positioning the company for major growth and giving you a rare chance to join while things are still moving fast
- We're building a fully-licensed programmable bank, rearchitecting how money moves between businesses, across borders, and between traditional and digital finance
- We ship fast, think deeply, and expect everyone to have high ownership, you'll see your work hit production quickly and shape how our APIs are used by some of the world's largest platforms
- Work with engineers who were founding engineers at Monzo, Atom Bank, and Blockdaemon
