Position Overview

A leading tertiary-care hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seeking an experienced Consultant Cardiologist specializing in Heart Failure and Transplant to join its advanced cardiovascular program. The ideal candidate will manage complex heart failure cases, lead transplant and mechanical circulatory support pathways, and contribute to multidisciplinary cardiac care, research, and service development.

 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Expertise

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with:
    • Advanced heart failure
    • Cardiomyopathies
    • Pulmonary hypertension
    • Post‑transplant cardiac conditions
    • Ventricular arrhythmias related to heart failure
  • Lead heart failure clinics, transplant follow‑up clinics, and inpatient consult services.
  • Manage and optimize guideline‑directed medical therapy (GDMT).
  • Evaluate and select candidates for:
    • Heart transplantation
    • LVAD and other mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices
  • Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, electrophysiologists, and imaging specialists.
  • Interpret advanced cardiac diagnostics including echocardiography, cardiac MRI, CPET, and hemodynamic studies.

Transplant & MCS Program Leadership

  • Participate in transplant selection committees and multidisciplinary transplant boards.
  • Oversee pre‑transplant evaluation, peri‑operative management, and long‑term post‑transplant care.
  • Manage patients with LVADs and other MCS devices, including optimization and complication management.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of heart failure and transplant services.

Quality, Governance & Service Development

  • Develop and update clinical pathways, protocols, and heart failure/transplant guidelines.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards for transplant and MCS programs.

Academic & Research Contributions

  • Engage in clinical research, clinical trials, and publications in heart failure and transplant medicine.
  • Teach and mentor residents, fellows, and junior physicians.
  • Participate in CME programs and represent the department at national and international conferences.

Patient & Family Engagement

  • Communicate complex diagnoses, treatment options, and long‑term care plans clearly and compassionately.
  • Provide education on lifestyle modification, medication adherence, and transplant expectations.
  • Support families through decision‑making and chronic disease management.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD/MBBS) from a recognized institution.
  • Board Certification in Cardiology (e.g., American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent).
  • Fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology from a recognized center.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of post‑specialization experience, including consultant‑level practice.
  • Eligibility for Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) Consultant classification.
  • Proven expertise in managing advanced heart failure, transplant patients, and MCS devices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
