Role Overview
A prestigious tertiary care hospital in Saudi Arabia is seeking a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in Retina to join its advanced ophthalmology department. The role involves managing complex retinal diseases, performing surgical and medical retina procedures, and contributing to teaching and research within a multidisciplinary eye care team.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and vascular occlusions
- Perform advanced retinal surgeries, including pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckling, and intravitreal injections
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as OCT, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasound, and fundus photography
- Provide medical retina treatments, including laser photocoagulation and anti-VEGF therapy
- Collaborate with pediatric ophthalmology, uveitis, and oncology teams for complex cases
- Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and junior consultants
- Participate in clinical research, CME activities, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with SCFHS regulations and hospital protocols
Qualifications & Requirements
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with completed residency in Ophthalmology
- Fellowship in Retina/Vitreoretinal Surgery or Medical Retina
- Board-certified (e.g., American Board, UK CCT, Canadian FRCSC, or equivalent)
- Minimum 3–5 years of post-fellowship experience in a tertiary care setting
- Eligible for Consultant classification by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
- Proficiency in English; Arabic is a plus
Preferred Attributes
- Skilled in both surgical and medical retina procedures
- Experience with advanced imaging and surgical platforms (e.g., OCT-A, 3D visualization)
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Interest in academic teaching or clinical research
