Position Overview
A leading tertiary-care hospital in Al Ain is seeking an experienced Consultant Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist to join its pediatric subspecialty team. The ideal candidate will provide expert diagnosis and management of complex infectious diseases in infants, children, and adolescents, while contributing to infection control programs, antimicrobial stewardship, research, and multidisciplinary care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Expertise
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of pediatric infectious diseases, including:
- Bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections
- Complex and recurrent infections
- Immunocompromised host infections
- Congenital and neonatal infections
- Tuberculosis and travel‑related diseases
- Provide inpatient consultations for PICU, NICU, oncology, and general pediatrics.
- Manage outpatient clinics for chronic and complex infectious disease follow‑up.
- Guide antimicrobial therapy, including advanced and targeted treatments.
- Interpret microbiology, serology, molecular diagnostics, and imaging relevant to infectious diseases.
Infection Control & Stewardship
- Collaborate with hospital infection control teams to develop and implement policies.
- Lead antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to optimize antibiotic use.
- Participate in outbreak investigations and hospital‑wide infection prevention strategies.
- Provide education to clinical teams on infection control best practices.
Leadership & Departmental Development
- Contribute to the development and expansion of pediatric infectious disease services.
- Develop clinical pathways, guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, audits, and clinical governance.
- Mentor junior physicians, residents, and nursing staff.
Family & Patient Engagement
- Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive strategies clearly and compassionately to families.
- Provide guidance on vaccination, travel medicine, and infection prevention.
- Support families in managing chronic or complex infectious conditions.
Academic & Research Contributions
- Participate in clinical research, case studies, and institutional review activities.
- Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Contribute to CME programs and represent the department at conferences.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Medical Degree (MD/MBBS) from a recognized institution.
- Board Certification in Pediatrics with fellowship training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (e.g., American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent).
- Minimum 8–10 years of post‑specialization experience, including consultant‑level practice.
- Eligibility for Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH/HAAD) Consultant licensure.
- Strong expertise in managing complex infections, immunocompromised patients, and antimicrobial stewardship.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
