Position Overview
The Consultant Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon will provide expert surgical care for critically injured and acutely ill patients within a high-acuity tertiary hospital setting. The role requires advanced clinical decision‑making, operative management, and leadership in multidisciplinary trauma and emergency surgery pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the assessment, resuscitation, and operative management of major trauma and acute surgical emergencies.
- Provide consultant‑level coverage for trauma calls, emergency surgeries, and acute care surgical admissions.
- Perform complex trauma procedures, emergency laparotomies, and damage‑control surgeries.
- Oversee inpatient care, including ICU coordination, perioperative management, and postoperative follow‑up.
- Participate in trauma team activation, M&M reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with trauma protocols, clinical governance, and international best‑practice standards.
- Supervise junior doctors, surgical residents, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to trauma registry documentation, audits, and accreditation processes.
- Engage in teaching, simulation training, and continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Board Certification in General Surgery or Trauma Surgery (or equivalent).
- Fellowship training in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, or Emergency Surgery preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years post‑consultant experience in a high‑volume trauma center.
- Proven expertise in operative trauma management and emergency general surgery.
- Experience working in Level 1 or Level 2 trauma systems is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
