Job Summary
A high‑performing ophthalmology service is seeking an experienced Consultant General Ophthalmologist with a dedicated special interest in Dry Eye Disease. The successful candidate will support a busy outpatient department, lead specialized dry eye services, and contribute to the delivery of comprehensive general ophthalmic care.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a broad spectrum of general ophthalmic conditions, providing high‑quality, evidence‑based care
- Diagnose and treat Dry Eye Disease, including Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), evaporative and aqueous‑deficient dry eye, and complex tear film disorders
- Perform minor surgical procedures and laser treatments within the scope of general ophthalmology
- Develop, lead, and expand dedicated dry eye clinics, incorporating advanced diagnostics and therapeutic technologies
- Collaborate with optometry, primary care, and subspecialty teams to ensure integrated patient management
- Participate in clinical governance, service development, and quality improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Tier 1 medical qualification, such as:
- American Board Certification
- UK CCT
- Canadian Fellowship
- Australian/New Zealand Fellowship
- Demonstrated expertise in Dry Eye Disease management, including advanced diagnostics and treatment modalities
- Minimum 5 years of Consultant‑level experience
- Eligibility for or possession of a DOH (Department of Health) license
- Strong communication skills and commitment to patient‑centered, multidisciplinary care
