Axiom Data Science is looking for a detail-oriented team player to join our organization in the position of Grants and Contracts Manager. Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Grants and Contracts Manager will have both internal and external facing responsibilities managing various functional areas of the organization. Axiom desires a candidate with the ability to manage or assist with: grants and contracting administrative support for awards to Axiom Data Science, internal financial and accounting systems and processes, communications to external partners and funders, and public relations. The position duties will vary based on the candidates exact skillset, as it is understood that applicants may not have experience in all areas of grants administration, finance, and communications management. This position will provide excellent opportunities for learning and growth for a candidate interested in organizational management, financial operations, and communication/marketing. 


Essential Duties


  • Provide administrative support for grants, contracts, and subaward activities, including preparing project budgets and budget narratives consistent with funder requirements, completing vendor and subaward agreements, organizing and centralizing central award documents, and assisting with or reviewing completed grant materials prior to submission.
  • Assist in the financial management of the organization including tracking project budgets and spending, preparing budget reports, and drafting, submitting, and monitoring invoices to funders. 
  • Administrate the Axiom General Services Administration (GSA) contract and manage the renewal of Axiom’s Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA). 
  • Lead the advancement of accounting practices and process systems to improve overall grant management and operational efficiency.
  • Depending on interest and knowledge, perform analytical functions to prepare financial reports and assist with financial forecasting. 
  • Assist with or direct preparing of external communications, including maintaining external communication updates via a website, newsletter, or other public communications. 



Required Skills, Experience and Qualities


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with business administration, public administration, basic accounting, and project planning and management.
  • Demonstrated experience with administrative contract or grants management.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous tasks across projects, while being sensitive to deadlines and changing priorities. 
  • Strong written and verbal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and detail-oriented in the execution of day-to-day work responsibilities, as well as being responsive to direction when needed.
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement, make suggestions for change and oversee the implementation of new systems or work procedures.
  • Strong process development and critical thinking skills.



Desired Skills, Experience and Qualities


  • Experience working at an organization funded by diverse funding streams, including federal, state, private, and academic sources.
  • Background working at an organization or agency with an environmental science mission.
  • Experience in bookkeeping or managerial accounting.
  • Familiarity with website content management, or the development or execution of a communication and outreach strategy.
  • Familiarity working in a software or agile development environment. 
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks or other accounting software.

Compensation and Benefits


This position is being offered as part-time or full-time, depending on the interest of the successful applicant. Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include 5 weeks paid leave plus holidays, healthcare reimbursement, a company 401K plan, and a gym membership. 


Location


It is expected that the position would work from home or remotely for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, the work location may be flexible for a well-qualified candidate, though we would prefer a candidate in proximity to our Anchorage office.
