Purpose of the role:

Bristol Waste Company is seeking a dynamic Fleet Manager to lead the strategic and operational management of our diverse vehicle fleet. This is a high-impact role where you'll ensure legal compliance, cost control, and maximum vehicle availability—keeping Bristol moving, sustainably and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the delivery of our Fleet Action Plan and aligning it with operational priorities
- Overseeing fleet deployment, utilisation, and asset allocation to reduce hire dependency
- Embedding preventative maintenance practices and ensuring statutory compliance
- Managing fleet KPIs including vehicle availability, defect closure, and parts supply
- Driving fleet rationalisation and life extension programmes
- Coaching and developing the Workshop Manager and wider team
- Championing a zero-defect culture and enforcing internal SLAs
- Ensuring full compliance with DVSA, Operator Licence, and PEWER regulations
Essential Requirements for the Role:
- NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent)
- Fleet Management or Transport Manager CPC or willingness to complete
- Strong technical knowledge of HGV systems and diagnostics
- Proven leadership in fleet and workshop operations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making
- HGV Licence (Class 1 or 2) is desirable but not essential.
