Bristol Waste’s commercial operation, where we serve businesses and organisations across the region, is also growing.

Our ambition is to provide good quality, value for money services, and we continue to deliver a social value impact worth more than £30 million every year.

We want people who share our values and want to work with us to drive our business forward.

Purpose of the role:

Lead on our internal communications strategy, inspiring and informing colleagues through effective and targeted communications.   Working with different support teams across the business to help meet their objectives and to suggest suitable and effective communications for their needs and our colleagues' requirements.

  • Continually consider, devise and implement ways to build the company’s culture through communications activities – specifically taking into account the diversity of our workforce in terms of EDI (e.g. English as a second language, neurodiversity, illiteracy)
  • Write and edit content, copy, letters and articles for internal and external communications channels, such as the website and publications
  • Design and develop video, audio and visual internal communications
  • Promote and support the delivery of two-way communications and cascade communications through the business from the executive level to front-line teams
  • Support our front-line staff to be ambassadors for the company when in contact with the public and customers
  • Support the wider Marketing and Communications team as required

Essential Requirements for the Role:

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Able to compile, analyse and use data to inform campaigns and initiatives
  • Creative thinker and initiative-taker
  • Outstanding organisational and project management skills
  • Must possess excellent organisational, verbal, presentation and written communication skills, as well as pay attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of personal integrity
  • Current and valid driving licence
  • Video editing skills using Adobe
  • Design skills (NB we have a designer within the team)

  • Because we value our colleagues, we want to recruit more employees just like them, which is why we have our employee referral scheme.
  • Dedicated learning and development team. We take pride in developing our colleagues and some examples of this include our In-House Driver Development Programme and internal promotions. Many of our Senior Leadership Team have developed from Operational roles, such as one of our Contract Managers who started as a Street Cleanser.
  • Employee recognition ‘Stand Out Award’ and long service awards. To celebrate our colleagues wherever they are on their journey with us, we recognise and celebrate talent.
  • We recognise that everyone is different and strive to create an environment that supports all colleagues through flexible working. We have introduced a hybrid working model where possible and actively encourage part-time working, job sharing and flexibility on hours.
