The Role

In order to ensure success as a senior network engineer, you should demonstrate specialized engineering knowledge and experience working with a content delivery network (CDN), hosting environment, or other critical internet infrastructure. A senior network engineer will be someone whose engineering expertise translates into streamlined and cost-effective processes. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain CacheFly's content delivery network
  • Diagnose and resolve network issues
  • Perform routine maintenance, including network hardware and software upgrades, and capacity augmentation
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Attend at least one industry conference per year (e.g. NANOG, RIPE, etc)
  • Collaborate with the broader engineering team to improve and streamline processes

 

What We Look for in a Candidate

  • 7+ Years of experience as a network engineer
  • Knowledge of Juniper switching (any of EX, PTX, QFX, etc)
  • Ability to turn up BGP with transits and public/IX peers
  • Understanding of OSI layers 1 through 3
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting ECMP and LACP
  • Management of data center cross connects
  • History of working with remote hands
  • Linux experience
  • And at least two of the following:
    • Ansible
    • BGP Anycast
    • BGP communities and traffic engineering
    • Kentik or netflow/sflow
    • Linux scripting
    • Zero touch provisioning
  • Skills: Personal accountability, professional communication and demonstrated time management skills.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to build relationships over the phone or via Slack. Must have a proactive communication style ensuring timely status of projects to account team and customer. 
  • Technical Skills: Advanced understanding of information technology, communications, or security concepts and general knowledge of technical terminology or industry concepts related to CacheFly solutions is required. Must possess a willingness and appetite to learn new concepts and subjects and have the initiative to invest in ongoing professional development through self-study. Must have a working knowledge of CacheFly service portfolio, processes, and systems.
  • Problem Solving: Advanced analytical skills. Must be able to work through complex issues with a methodical approach. Will be expected to graphically depict CacheFly services and customer solutions in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Work Style: Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines. 
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and be able to reprioritize as needed or as directed to respond to changing business requirements. Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to travel as needed (Approx. 10%)
